furluvcats, you summed it up well.
I have a cousin that got hooked on chrystal meth. She lost everything, including her 3 kids. Thank God she woke up and realized what she was doing. She quit and is now very successful and has her kids back.
I'm not saying pot leads to other drugs, but it could.
I suppose everyone is entitled to their opinion, but I'm with you, keep pot and all drugs illegal.

I think it should be legalized. If you are going to smoke it,at least you should know what you are smoking.I have not smoked in years, but I do know it was not laced with harmful chemicals. The government loses millions of$$$,letting people buy & sell off the street. Why not benifit from it?Obviously there are sellars& buyers (.If they legalize it, maybe we can buy stocks)

No to legalizing!!
As a former pothead I am 100 percent against legalizing pot. It IS a stepping stone to hard drugs and prolonged use DOES cause long term health issues. Pot use also affects driving ability as well as other tasks involving coordination and thought. Lets keep it illegal.

I've smoked it in the past, and, personally, it makes me
throw my sock heels up! Allergy? Hmmm...go figure...?
(*breeze is hugging the porcelain throne....) :o I tend
to be the exception.
But - I understand that it actually cures nausea from
cancer patients, and, alleviates pain. If that is the case,
then, I am all for legalizing it. I have always figured that
the Good Lord made it grow for some medicinal purpose...
unfortunately, us modern Americans kinda tended to take it
overboard. No problems here with legalization.

Like I said in my first post, mary jane IS a treatment for Glacoma, it relieves the pressure build up within the eye. My step mother is an RN who worked in a Hospic Home for a 4 years, she will testify in a court of law that pot DOES indeed cure nausea and aids in pain managment.
I've known more alcoholics that do more damage to themselves, family, work etc than pot heads. It's all about *everything in moderation*. Yes.....people DO let pot wreck their lifes, like furry pointed out BUT......like I said, I've seen MORE people abuse booze and have TOTALLY ruined their careers, their marriage!
OK......I've smoked it *gasp*, use to smoke it quite a bit WAY, WAY back in the 70's, haven't touched it since 1979! I never negelected my job, my responsiblity to friends, family. I used it as a *recreational drug* I guess, it took the *edge* off a bad day.
Now this Crystal Meth

Like I said, I could go either way, legalize it, keep it illegal.

Interestingly enough, I received this e-mail today. This is from Ralph Bristol's Daily Dispatch. (He must have known this topic was on S2K)
I must say, he presents a pretty good argument.
What do ya'll think?

Let 'em smoke pot
From the police blotter: Art Garfunkel, 62, is charged with possession of a small amount of marijuana. Possible fine: $100.
Police said Garfunkel was riding (not driving) alone when a state trooper stopped his limo for speeding around 12:20 p.m. Saturday in Hurley, N.Y. The trooper smelled marijuana after approaching the vehicle.
I know I'm going to get a lot of flack for this, but there's something almost silly about arresting a 62-year-old man, famous or otherwise, for smoking marijuana. What's he going to do - ruin his life and career? Destroy his brain cells? Set a bad example for his 40-year-old kids?
The debate over legalizing or decriminalizing marijuana in the U.S. is far from over. Maybe it's time for a new idea. I propose legalizing marijuana for people over 60.
Marijuana is a drug that not only creates a form of artificial euphoria, but it also fairly dramatically distorts reality, so that the smoker is rendered temporarily incapable of dealing with reality. For students trying to get an education or workers trying to be productive, that can cause problems, not just for them but also for others who are either responsible for, or dependent on them.
If you have reached the ripe old age of 60 without destroying your brain cells, your career or your family, it seems to me that you have earned a little slack in the prohibition reins. Even if you have already destroyed those things, there's not nearly as much damage you can do now as before. Your children are grown and responsible for themselves. There are fewer people depending on you, meaning any damage you do is mostly to yourself.
At the age of 60, you have a lot more experience accepting the consequences of your actions than you did at 21, 30 or even 45. You are much more likely to accurately calculate the consequences and take only the risks with which you can live.
By the age of 60, most people have taken their turn standing in harms way to protect their fellow Americans. They have reared, educated and liberated their children, and they've made a substantial contribution to the economy through productive labor and taxes. They have reached the age of "earned self-indulgence."
If Art Garfunkel or my 60-year-old neighbor chooses to indulge himself by smoking pot, he'll get no complaint from me. Maybe it's time the law cuts him some slack also.
