From Letterman's monologue last night...

"We can't get Bin Laden but we nail a 78 year old attorney!"

And one of his top 10 Cheney Excuses...paraphrasing this one....
"I had to do something to get the Iraq War off the front page!"

Letterman had Bif running around in bright orange hunting vest shooting a dummy, in camouflage clothes, that kept falling from the ceiling.

The other topic of the night - the near Blizzard NYC and the east coast got slammed with. Snowballs flying all over the studio.

Mine too alicia! We record Letterman each night. And watch during the week. But I just had to see his monologue and Top 10 List while eating my breakfast. We also record Jon Stewart's show this way too. We're maximizing our DVR capabilities! So much so, that my husband goes thru saved programs each week and asks - Mary, are you ever going to watch the Knots Landing Reunion? LOL I did see it but wanted to go thru again and watch my favorite moments. He hates when we save shows.....anyway, I could never stay up again and watch late night shows. Unless I had a colicky newborn again and that ain't gonna happen! LOL Yup, Letterman saved me way back when, when Nina was a newborn. She didn't fall asleep until 1 or 1:30 am., each night. I was literally dragging back then.

I thought Letterman was in really, really poor taste with his producer's address to Mrs. Cheney. :grr:

I'm sorry to hear that. I hope that there aren't any other issues that arise due to this accident.

This was an accident. I am sure Cheney feels terrible about it. Of course, the media is having a field day with somebody else's misfortune!!

The news corp were asking some absurd questions yesterday. I guess they all got their panties in a knot because they weren't told first.

I feel awful for Whittington, but I feel bad for Cheney as well. He accidentally shot his friend. Even though it wasn't really his fault, you know he feels horrible! Whittington returned to the group announced. You just don't do that....for obvious reasons. I hope he recovers quickly.

If you have a loaded gun in your hand it is YOUR responsiblity to not shoot the people around you... even if Whittington didnt say he was there, it is 100% the person holding the gun's fault. And the thing that makes me most uncomfortable is that we didn't find out that the Vice President of the United States had shot somebody until the ranch owner told her local newspaper (at what point would he have said something?!). If we're paying his salary I'd like to hear that he's shot someone from him and not from some random lady in Texas.

100% true from any reasonable gun safety standpoint. Also, any of the rest of us would be facing a hefty fine at the least right now, and possible charges of criminal negligence.

It's becoming more and more obvious this was much more serious than they let on. You don't spend days in ICU for something minor. You don't wind up with pellets travelling around your bloodstream and lodging in your heart from something minor.

It is far more serious than first announced. How much so? That is hard to say right now. Mr. Whittington has a bb right near his heart muscle, which the doctors acknowledge and what caused his "silent heart attack. They seemed confident that it is stationary and would not enter the heart chamber.

Don't be surprised though to see him transferred to the Texas Heart Institute, here in Houston.

There's a local doc here that just went back to work...ACCIDENTLY got shot with some buckshot in his rearend! He's laughing about it and his staff had a good time welcoming him back at his expense.

Accidents do happen....we've all had them.

What conspiracy theory? Yes it was an accident, one caused by apparent negligence on Cheney's part.

And my comment about it being more serious than they let on isn't a conspiracy theory so much as plain observation. The guy was in ICU for two days, and now he's back for a week. That's pretty much the definition of really, really serious. It doesn't comport at all with the initial comments that he was "more bruised than bloodied" or that "he got peppered pretty good" or that his condition in hospital was "pretty much like sitting with him in his living room" etc.

Ya know had the election had a completely different outcome and this was Edwards, you must know that Letterman, SNL, Leno would still be having a hey day with it. And keep in mind also, when the story broke it was a pellet gun and a minor shooting. Comical material for late night shows. Period. I don't think I'd be up in arms had the party I voted for, won and been in the spotlight. There, I'm done now.

I agree. This thread is getting a little close to going overboard. Let's just keep the discussion going on topic.
