I have an older 20G w/about 1,800 songs on it, only half full at 192K, a good compromise between sound quality and file size. It has changed my life for the better at the gym. Over half at my gym use some sort of player, and the average age of the user has steadily risen.
I upgraded the earbuds to some Shure isolation headphones, which makes a big difference in the sound and is better for your ears, but they really do block out other sound since you wear 'em like ear plugs. Not for use on a bike, for example.
I don't have the car converter, but if I spent much time in the car, I'd have to break down and get a car stereo that has an iPod dock (and plays mp3 cds). No wires and you control it through the dash.
I've listened to a few podcasts on my computer, not my iPod. No audio books, either. What I'm interested in trying soon is ripping a film commentary track from a DVD and putting it on the 'pod.
At home, I often have it shuffling on my computer rather than listening to my stereo. And I take it to the bayhouse and connect it to the stereo instead of trying to select CDs to drag down there every time, that's really handy.
Do you IPod?
