If there is EVER a reason to quit, it is for your kids. My M.I.L and my wife both started when they were 14 or less. Needless to say, my step daughter (now 22) started when she was 14, and now our son. I would rail against him but how could I have any moral authority while I was still smoking. If it's bad, it's bad. It really is weak to argue that "I can because I'm legal age."
Finallly I gathered myself up and quit on new years eve. I'm still smoke free 5-6 months later. In March, my MIL died. The was almost 80, so you could say that despite smoking for almost 70 years, she still had a good long life. But I'll tell you what, the last 15 years of her life were full of illness and disability. She finally died of heart failure/emphesema/blood pressure/asthma - all aggravated by smoking.
Then in early April, my wife had a near heart attack. At 42 years old, she had developed high blood pressure, bad blood lipids, artery disease, etc. They did an angioplasty and put a stent in her artery. Fortunately there was no permanent damage, but it was a big scare, and she is implementing life style changes. Today I bought her (

Now finally, our 14 year old son has quit - involuntarily. He is taking a summer "vacation" at a boot camp. (It's a long story - belongs in another thread)
So hopefully we are going to be a non-smoking family here pretty shortly.
The only downside: My weight is going up and up. I've gained nearly 30 pounds since quitting. I guess that's still healthier than smoking. Recent blood pressure: 125/65, so it's not too bad.
