My sympathy goes out to his family. Even the worst of criminals have loved ones and Lay was no exception. No doubt Lay put them thru pure hell but thats beside the point.

I do not know what would be worse for Lay..paying the price here on earth and having an oppurtunity to atone for his sins, or going to meet his Maker as he did.

Ya know I would also like to add that they guy didn't murder anyone. I know what happend was a tradgedy for many people but, we all do things in life that are wrong. Would you not want to be forgiven for something that you did was wrong? We should be sad for him and his family. I'm sure that if he was your father, brother, son, grandfather, uncle or whoever you would be very upset right now.

Ken Lay's dead  Please. This is a silly thread with way too much sympathy for Enron's crooked CEO. He helped ruin people's lives.

I have no sympathy for ken lay or his family. Many people lost their life's work and life's savings due to his criminality. As far as I'm concerned if his (lay's) family had to live on the street to redress his crimes, for the rest of their lives, I wouldn't feel sorry for them. They were beneficiaries of his ill-gotten gains as well. Gtalum is right on this one. Besides he should have died in prison awaiting sentencing like any common convict, not free.

The way i took it was that he was just another rich guy that got away with all of this stuff by paying the right people off. What about all of those people that worked to improve his company for 20-over years that he his ruined their lives and still to the day he died denying he even stole money from them. I am sorry but that’s a really steep price to just forgive easily, maybe if he were to even admit he did it.

Well I don't think he got off easy.. as he was convicted and was to spend a long long time in Jail and then he died. If you think dying is getting off easy there is something wrong with that. BTW not trying to agrue with you on this one just stating this IMO.

He did get off easy. He shoul dhave died a homeless beggar in Houston. Instead he died in the comfort of his vacation home in Aspen. How many of the peopel that he ruined financially by his crimes had vacation homes in Aspen? How many of them died of heart attacks from the stress that his crimes caused? I bet the second number is greater than the first.

It's guys like Ken Lay that make me wish I believed in the afterlife.

Oh? I suppose you could be sympathetic for his first wife -- the one who was dumped. But all the crocodile tears on this thread are a little bizarre.

If you had a corrupt relative who died I reckon you'd naturally like some sympathy.

By NO means am I condoning what Mr. Lay did to his first marriage or career.

Since he had ties to certain politicians, I'm with CM on this one. But so far, no one has gone there.

As for as him doing "no good on this earth," I guess you'd need to read about his past to know a little more about him. However, I agree with you about him in the end -- greed personified. Kevin Spacey even said he modeled his portrayal of Lex Luthor after Ken Lay.

Nevertheless, my thoughts and prayers are with his family. I hope they find peace.

Ah, so a CELEBRITY opens their little pie-hole - it must all be true, then. Hollywood has spoken! 8-)

Lay's "ties to certain politicians" were severed - by the politicians - the second he and Enron got in trouble, the conspiracy theorists running rampant on the 'net seem to have forgotten. And they are "going there" and have been since the verdict.

The millions the Lays gave to charity were in Enron stock, which they hardly missed.

Linda Lay sold 500K shares of Enron stock on behalf of the family 3 HOURS before the announcement that the Dynegy merger collapsed sealing Enron's fate. Think she didn't have any insider knowledge?

The Lays STILL OWE ENRON 7.5M, yet they had planned, according to their attorney's testimony on the stand, to sue the Enron Creditors Committee, the rotting carcass left behind, for 50-60 MILLION for breach of contract and loss of retirement benefits! The employees who lost their jobs got a max of $4,650.

When a prosecutor asked Ken Lay on the stand if they could have made margin calls any other way besides secretly unloading Enron stock, like, for example, trimming back their lifestyle, Linda Lay shook her head "no".

Some of the family knew more than others, a lot more. They ALL benefitted from the fraud. And because he died before the case was finally adjudicated, it will be much harder for plaintiffs and the gov't to take it back. Since they believe their patriarch was innocent, I doubt they'll be making amends in his memory.

I'm not without sympathy, believe it or not. The Lays are a large, tightly-knit family who adored Ken. Back in the salad days, he even had the ex and her kids and Linda and her kids all vacationing together in Aspen (they did not own the house they were at this week, all CO property has been sold for years). But some of them are quite frankly delusional (I wonder who they got that from?) and their sense of entitlement is still palpable.

My sympathy go to his family as in his mother, father, sister, brothers, children, wives. There was a time when this man was a good and honest person, who knows when and where it went wrong, but you can't blame his family for his sins, only the one that sinned.

I still get tickled when I read the name of this thread as I did the first time I read it, Ken lay dead...I kept thinking, Ken who? Ken, Barbie's Ken, Ken who? Sorry just had to put that in there.
