MomH wrote:The show is certainly bringing back some memories. Things like bomb drills when I was a kid living in Laguna Beach, CA (between San Diego & LA) and the sales of bomb shelters about the same time. Even as late as '76 I remember a college instructor giving an assignment about having to decide who should be allowed into an underground shelter in our community. Brought up a lot of discussion and a realization that the younger students had no idea what to do, how to do it, or how they could survive if they managed to live through it. That may be the best thing this show will do for the country--get people a little more aware and possibly a little more prepared.

I agree about being better prepared. Someone asked about had any of us bought the plastic or duct tape as recommended after 911. I bought some but my mama used it for the garden. Bought more tarps and she used it in the garden sheds. I really laugh about all those drills in elementary school and hiding under the desk. Living in Tampa with like three ICBM's targeted for us, I really don't think hiding under a desk would have helped much. Also, remember those boxes of food and water they made us bring to school. I think the main concern now is a dirty bomb and frankly I think more people would die because of panic and not knowing what to do than from the actual bomb.

I can't believe they took off House for baseball. :grrr: Well at least I can look forward to Jericho tonight. Hope the ratings keep up. It seems like most of the shows I like get dropped.

Baseball will be on FOX pretty much all month(not every night, but most, it'll get worse as it gets closer to the World Series at the end of the month). I don't think Jericho is going anywhere, so far it's ratings have been better than expected, and while it's not a breakout hit like other shows, it's plenty good enough to stick around. CBS has struggled on Wednesday at 8 the last couple of seasons now and this is doing better than anything they've had.

I sure hope they take off something else besides House. I'm addicted. I might go into withdrawal.

House is on hiatus until October 31st(two repeats will air on the 17th if ALCS Game 6 isn't needed). There's also a repeat tonight at 9. Several nights of shows will be pre-empted this month, but right now FOX doesn't have much that anyone cares about(besides House).

Is it just me or is Jericho a fast one hour show? The hour just flies. What is the Lousville policeman building? Is it a water purifier or bomb? He makes me nervous. He certainly seemed prepared with that hazmat suit. A little unrealistic about having the Iodine in the basement. I know we are all supposed to have it on stock, but who does?

The St. Louis cop is who I'm guessing you mean? I think he knows something more from that ham radio broadcast than what he and the show's writers are letting on. Looks like he just has something stored in that big drum he got from the storage unit and managed to get it to his basement. The last thing I saw was him building a concrete brick wall in front of it to hide it. I don't think he was building a bomb or anything detrimental to the folks of Jericho. I'm still under the impression that he's one of the good guys, even though they are trying to throw suspicion his way. Even one of the folks from Jericho questioned him in an earlier episode -- "How come you know so much about radiation?"

I think whatever he knows and whatever it is that's in that drum is something that he needs to keep safe until he knows the extent of the problem...something that he can only trust in the hands of those he knows are not the enemy...something that maybe needs to be rationed so everyone gets their fair amount in order to survive. Ammo, vaccine, antidote? Something along those lines, maybe?

I think that cop is a bad guy. Did you see the part where they showed him sticking pins in the different cities that had been bombed. How does he know that info when the rest of them don't or did I miss too much? Unfortunately this comes on on Wednesday nights which is my choir night. Now I must get a dvr!!!

He actually got the short wave radio to work and picked up Morse code indicating which cities had been hit. However when asked in last week episode if he got the radio to work he claimed he never did. I am not sure what to make of him just yet.

In the book Alas Babylon it was the lack of salt that was the worst deprivation. The look on the boys face when he opened the train and saw the groceries was eerie. He seems kind and sweet but all the kids say he's wierd or something. Will he share the groceries or sell the goods to the people?

Just a note...when it returns October 31st it will air Tuesdays at 9pm ET/PT, not 8pm(which 9pm is where it aired after Idol last year anyway).

Thanks a million. I hope they continue to hold the 9PM slot for House. I hated having to tape NCIS and then watching it at nine. :) :)

Warning: Minor spoilers for those of you on the west coast (or those who have recorded) who haven't watched yet

UGH! Medical reality vent time! (Literally...vent, as in ventilator)

Okay, first of all, please tell me they are not calling the ambu bag by the archaic term "hand pump?" *shakes head in disbelief*

Secondly, Victor would not be talking that well if he had just pulled out the orotracheal tube. There's a balloon-like cuff on the end that is inflated when the tube is in position past the vocal cords. It keeps the tube in position and seals the airway so positive pressure gets the oxygen into the lungs. When he pulled it out, I didn't see an inflated balloon on the end. If it had been (and doing its job correctly), he would have hurt his throat and not been able to speak that well.

And finally, Jake said Victor was suffering from third-degree burns. One of the first rules of thumb is to intubate a burn patient and KEEP THEM intubated. If the airway swells up due to the burns, it can make intubation next to impossible.

Eh, nevermind...he died. I'm not surprised.

I thought the same thing about the ventilator. The hospital only has one ambu bag and they had to give mouth to mouth to him. Give me a break. Also, how did the police know the rich girl was using too much electricity if she was using a generator? Lots of questions in this episode to keep you hooked.

Could Hawkins be part of a group of CIA that knew what was coming? They prepared and made a plan. "The rallying point is not secure." Could the rallying point have been Jericho? Does he not want the children to make friends because they are eventually going to take over the city of Jericho. Why is Hawkins so paranoid to start with? What difference if they were from DC or Timbuctu? The police don't have the ability to check him out if they did think something was fishy with him and his family. I wish I had taped the show, it is so fast paced its hard to get every clue. On the computer were documents of other groups. Did anyone happen to get what the documents names were? If you were the mayor wouldn't you be confiscating gas, drugs, food, supplies and starting to ration these items. I realize they are not sure what is happening on the outside, but to be on the safe side wouldn't you be taking extreme measures in the event the government isn't going to come to the rescue. I'm glad they weren't price gouging at the store when they got the food from the train, but realistically the people would have bought everything off the shelves in five minutes, not just a few items in their buggy. Chips, give me a break. Anyone been to the store prior to a hurricane? I've seen people fighting over the last can of Spam - YUCK. I love the show but a little more realism wouldn't be amiss.

What a tease. Make us think Jake is going to tell his father what he's been doing for five years and the old man says don't tell me. I felt like screaming. I don't understand Hawkins having to leave his family behind. What's up with that? Was that an ICBM streaking across the sky at the end of the show? or a jet?

They were the bombs from the silos. But, what I'm wondering is, did the "enemy" infiltrate the nuclear defense system and is firing the missles apon the USA.

Also, that EAS. Maybe the "enemy" turned it on to black out all information/communication from the outside world.

Or maybe I'm just thinking too hard.

It's a SHOW for heavens sake...just like CSI   Yeah, some stuff on CSI is pretty *factual* most of the time it's shear B.S.!!

NOW....the streak at the end of the show? From the sound of it, to me, it sounded like a jet of some sorts!

Does anyone know if a dirty bomb would have a mushroom cloud or is that only with a nuclear bomb? I wonder about the delivery of the bombs to the cities? If they were ICBMs then the people of Jericho would surely have seen a retaliatory strike because we would have had warning. Could a suitcase bomb produce a mushroom cloud or would it be too small? Lots of questions.
