Things like bomb drills when I was a kid living in Laguna Beach, CA (between San Diego & LA) and the sales of bomb shelters about the same time. Even as late as '76 I remember a college instructor giving an assignment about having to decide who should be allowed into an underground shelter in our community. Brought up a lot of discussion and a realization that the younger students had no idea what to do, how to do it, or how they could survive if they managed to live through it. That may be the best thing this show will do for the country--get people a little more aware and possibly a little more prepared.
I agree about being better prepared. Someone asked about had any of us bought the plastic or duct tape as recommended after 911. I bought some but my mama used it for the garden. Bought more tarps and she used it in the garden sheds. I really laugh about all those drills in elementary school and hiding under the desk. Living in Tampa with like three ICBM's targeted for us, I really don't think hiding under a desk would have helped much. Also, remember those boxes of food and water they made us bring to school.
