I totally agree, all it has caused is havoc with overruns week after week, and last week we got cheated. In all the past seasons the top 5 sang two songs each, instead they only did one, took a commercial before anyone even sang, and STILL ran over!!!!!!! Saw this on MJ's blog about this week:

According to Top Idol, who has a source in Los Angeles, there will be a twist for next week’s Top 4–when Adam Lambert, Allison Iraheta, Danny Gokey and Kris Allen take the stage, they will not only be singing solos, but also perform in duets. Guess the producers are trying to get around the time constraints while offering the viewing public more than 4 performances in an hour-long show.

This week, the contestants WILL BE doing TWO songs, however…in another twist differentiating this season’s Top 4 show from previous ones, American Idol will be taking inspiration all those international editions of Idol…

The Top 4 will not only be performing solo renditions of classic rock songs from the 1970s and 80s…the even number means there will be also be DUET performances.

While I like the idea I don't understand why we can't get 8 performances in an hour(again, 10 happened in past seasons at top 5!)... whoever thought of having a 4th judge needs to be fired, it has caused a mess.

By having them do duets, it's now making it a variety musical show instead of a competition.

There is a great interview in the TV Guide this week with Simon. He discusses who he likes in the competition and who he things will will (not the same person). He also talks about what he would change in the show, Kara, the rest of his co-stars, Britain's Got Talent (and the American version, and when he will leave AI.

So what were his answers? Did you read it online? What's the link?

I read it in the mail. He very much likes Adam because of his originality, but thinks Danny will win since he is a safer singer. He would go Big Brother style and put cameras all over the house to see the fights behind the screen. He likes Kara, and wouldnt take her out, but the other three (Paula, Ryan, and Randy) are more important to him. He loves doing BGT, and wishes he was on AGT, and was stunned at Susan, and goes on to say that YouTube is what gave her such popularity, and that she is more popular in the US than in Britain because of it. Simon wants to leave AI when his contract is up after AI9.

Its a very good article, and you should read it if you can.

Gonna have to record it to be sure because we're celebrating cinco de mayo this evening and I'm not sure how long that is going to run. Should be good for at least the three mentioned. Maybe Danny will surprise us.

I really like Kara. I must be in the minority. She helps make a panel of well rounded people with ties to the music business. If they each focused more on their area of expertise I imagine the contestants could get overall better feedback.

Paula Abdul admits 12-year-long drug addiction...

Full house in chat * still waiting for CM and Brent though*

Adam - Whole lotta love led zepplin - definitely his genre. . .and his music. . awesome . .. first time I have liked him..

Allison - Cry, Baby Janis Joplin --- rocker chick is back . . .. it was good

Duets

Kris and Danny - it was good Kris had the better beginning. . . danny was a bit shouty . .. definitely towards the end. . . reluctantly say that Danny was better than Kris. .

Kris -- Come Together The Beatles - needed some more energy . . . I'm not sure what was wrong. . . I loved it . .. but something is not right. . .

Danny -- Dream On Aerosmith . .. OMG, my ears . . .it sucked . .. Brent. .. Michael Johns did hundred times better than this . . .

*thwaps fact*

Adam and Allison - duet #2 Allison should have sang this song as her solo performance -- kicked more ass in the duet than in the beginning. .. .

Adam
Kris/Allison
Danny

I don't hate Kara but my problem is Idol doesn't need a 4th judge and I don't feel like she adds anything new. The show lasted 7 seasons and became the biggest TV hit on 3 judges, and now it's ratings are down.

Anyway... ooh a stage accident canceled dress rehearsals. Not just that glass Idol thing breaking but before that the stage manager fell down a 20 foot staircase.

Adam: Absolutely incredible. I can't believe he went first, but, that will be hard to top.

Allison: Ummm... I didn't like that.

Kris/Danny duet: It was good but why is Idol doing duets? They need to stop this nonsense and have them sing two individual songs. Last year the top FIVE sang twice and it fit in an hour.

Kris: I actually liked it a lot, definitely better than Allison. Eating ice for lunch Simon? :P Pretty obvious the judges want him gone this week.

Danny: It was okay but not that great. Really rough in spots like the end, wow!!!!!!!.. Horror movie indeed, Simon  Side note: Michael Johns sang this song the week of his shocking boot last season(which I thought was much better)

Adam/Allison duet: WOW, that was AMAZING!

The Abdul pain killer addiction was after dancing related injuries, a car accident and a plane crash that required multiple spinal surgeries. She wasn't a typical rock star just trying to get high.

That's MY music!!

Adam - what fact said!!! He got the "Led out" :D

I'm hoping that another disaster doesn't happen while the show's on.

I agree that "Piece of My Heart" would've been better for Allison, but Janis Joplin as a whole is a good choice for her.

You go Allison! She is fiesty!

STYX!!! Very good guys!!! I also liked their melody. I do agree, I think Danny was better than Kris - Danny was in tune the whole time.

Kris - "Come Together" - original but kept true to the song. LOVED this performance!! :D He must've almost died when Slash gave him his guitar to use!! I liked his rock performance.

I hope Danny can talk after that scream in "Dream On". He's not one that has a strong voice to do a scream like that. He probably could've picked a better, "bluesier" rock song that would've suited him better.

Great duet by Adam and Allison! They are like brother and sister.

1.Adam Killed it!

2. Allison- Blah...Needs to go out there a little more.

3. Danny (because of the scream) - Would be #2, but that scream killed my ears. He did stick to the Rock theme.

4. Kris - Needs to go home.

Edit: the Duet ROCKED! Allison was MUCH better than during her solo.

LOL At the new judge on American Idol's epic fail. She said "I wish you would've done more early Aerosmith stuff, "Cryin'", "Crazy"." He did Dream On. Dream On is on Aerosmith's FIRST ALBUM.

She is not qualified for this.
