At first I didn't know what you were talking about Karan - I remember pop beaded necklaces! They were fun to make.
I remember gas being as low as 35 cent a gallon. Driving your friends around, putting 2 bucks worth of gas. Everyone pitched in, a buck or two or a few quarters. Spare change went a long way back then.
I remember gas stations offering self or full service. My dad preferred pumping his own gas b/c if they pumped, they always wanted to check your oil. And then he claimed you weren't really low, they just wanted to sell more oil. I remember him going on and on about it. And meanwhile, you're just sitting in this car, quite capable of pumping, washing the windshield, etc. Going all service was a good idea, IMHO!
I remember old fashioned shoe stores. You could barely get inside the door and a salesman was in your face - can I help you, what are looking for, what size are you? You could never just browse around, they were right behind you. I hated that! Then if they couldn't find the shoe you wanted in your size, they'd bring other styles, in your size. Of course you felt pressured to at least try them on, but really wanting the other shoe style. Shoe stores going self service was a good idea, IMHO too!
Making pot holders for our mothers and other mom's in the neighborhood. Charging 25 cents for them. I made so many, even preorders to match someone's kitchen colors.
Babysitting for 50 cents an hour.
Changing cloth diapers, with rubber pants and the large pins with ducks on them.
