Guess what everyone - I have my third snowday in a row! And hear there could be another major winter storm brewing for the OV, Feb. 2 and 3.

The school district I work for is now out of calamity days. We took 2 back in September after remnants of Hurricane Ike came roaring thru and gave us a very freak windstorm. 90% of Cincinnati was w/o power back then (we were, for over 12 hours).

If there's another storm coming, I just don't think people here will even believe it. 30 years ago, they would have believe it and braced for it. But our winters in general have been very mild, over the past several decades. So if another storm is coming, local Mets are going to have a challenge getting viewers to listen to them. I'll pay attention though....he he

Also the current economy has resulted in budget cuts for road maintenance, crews used to clear snow curb to curb and down to pavement. Those days are over. Now they clear just enough snow for cars to get thru. In other words, the word crews use now is: passable! It's just a great time to be employed by a school district.......

Wow, I could get used to being off like this.....LOL

But today I plan is much more productive - cleaning, ironing, etc. No putzing around! LOL

See ya all....have a nice day.

*Edit*

4th Snowday in a row for our school district and many in the area.

Unbelievable.

One main reason we're having so many snowdays? Budget cuts! Yes, they no longer clear side streets. Last night we had a quick storm dump an inch or more, on top of the snow, then ice, then snow, that fell Monday night into Wed. morning.

Local Mets are warning people another snowstorm is coming our way - Monday into Tuesday.

I could have more snowdays next week! Crazy!

Mary, I bet your house is spotless.
Sounds like your schools might be going a few days extra this summer.

I missed work on Wednesday because of the snow. It's coming down right now and it looks like I might head home early. Oh well, I can start celebrating for the Super Bowl early!!!
GO STEELERS!! The Pittsburgh schools have a 2 hour delay for Monday because of the Super Bowl. Crazy

We may have a party under the afghan before all is said and done! Even though we are warming up here we had another night of freezing temps here in Houston. That isn't unprecedented, but not usual either. Expecting more in the way of cold(for us) MOnday while the rest of you are probably watching a major snowstorm in your neighborhood.
As you already know if I am going to become a Grandfather soon. Our daughter Erin let us know that the doctor has now decided to induce her on Feb. 23 if she hasn't delivered by then(which is unlikely)since the doc is going to be out of town for the week around her original due date of March 2. Neither the doctor or we feel like she will make it that far. Emily, our first grandaughter's name is already estimated at 5 lbs. 11 oz. To say the least we are excited.
I still haven't seen crouton. Has he become a flying pig and flown the coop?

Good morning - this is your Wednesday morning wx alert - Miss Mary has another snowday!

Yes the sudden snowstorm yesterday dumped a very heavy snowband all over the greater Cincinnati area. It started around mid-day yesterday and picked up in intensity by evening rush hour. It took evening commuters a long time to get home from work - my husband, over 2 hours. When it normal route is under 30 minutes. Traffic was a mess all over Cincinnati. Many employees took off work early last week when we got hit with that huge wx snowstorm/system. So this week they were all working full days. And most left for home around 5. A few local news channels suspended normal programming and went into winter wx alert mode. Anyway, I shoveled once before 5, should have shoveled before bedtime but it was still coming down at that time. Now I will definitely need to shovel. We had at least 8 inches of snow at my house.

Funny thing was, as last week's storm was winding down, local mets said to watch for another big snowstorm this week. Then they backed way off, at one point, I heard it would be all rain (wrong). Then I heard light snow - dusting to an inch (wrong, again!)......

Sometimes I wonder if they back off on forecasts because they know people are just sick of this stuff? With so many schools out last week, working parents had to scramble for alternative day care options.

Anyway, that's my theory and I'm sticking to it - these local mets were too optimistic this time and should have at least prepared people the potential for more snow was possible.

I knew the potential was there. Good thing I follow wx closely! he he

It's just always nice when you are prepared for something like this and if it doesn't pan out, then it's not a big deal. But if you think you're getting flurries and you get 8 inches of snow, then it's a big deal. Local mets dropped the ball on this one.

I also heard one local company put their employees up at a hotel for the night. They just told them to get off the roads and check in. How nice huh? That story was all over the news too......what a way to improve your company's image!!!!

Have a nice day everyone......

Well, I won't need the afghan for at least a week!! Looking to be beautiful weather for a while here. But we do need rain!!!

I am having minor nose surgery next Wednesday so a little prayer would be appreciated. Has to be done in the hospital instead of outpatient due to my sleep apnea. Hopefully I will be able to breathe better after this.

Hopefully, our daughter won't deliver our granddaughter at the same time or I will be abandoned by my wife!!!LOL!!!

Have a great weekend all!!

David, you'll be in my prayers. I alway knew you were a movie star - having a nose job!!!jk

Do they feel that the surgery will improve your sleep apnea?

Anyway, I hope all goes well and you'll be up and around and ready to eat some chocolate covered KK's real soon.

It's supposed to be 50° tomorrow. Time to clean up the dog poo in the back yard. YUK

The surgery is supposed to actually help me breath better. He has not tied it to my sleep apnea, but it can't hurt. In laymens terms there is an area in both nostrils that is basically always inflamed and therefore blocking my breathing somewhat. It could be my allergies but he felt the starting point was this minor surgery. I will be trying to smell around for those chocolate kk's as soon as they bring me out of anesthesia. :cheesy: :cheesy: oh, btw, thanks for the movie star comment!! I actually had a nose job many years ago when my wife was working for a plastic surgeon. It was a combination of needed and cosmetic and since he only charged us what insurance would pay we said ok. I even had one of the first chin implants ever done with a new silicone(?) material(which they ended up removing), but it left enough scar tissue that I still have a "maly" chin. :ggreen:

Karan - well the jury's still out.....I think I have her first name correct. :?: LOL!

Remember all those snowdays I recently received (4 in one work week, 1 in another)? Well, it's 60 right now! We were all joking, how will we get thru 5 days this week? he he One student told me today he was so bored. I said - and it's only Monday!

All of snow is almost gone now. Except for huge piles next to driveways and in store parking lots. And the lovely brown/black grit left over from salt trucks.

But something tells me winter is not over. There will be another snow event.

How about a wind event? Or a power outage event?

Because right now, we have 3 wx things in place:

Severe Thunderstorm Warning
High Wind Warning
Tornado Watch

Local mets are making a huge deal about this system and to be prepared. I'm in wait mode. I joked with a few coworkers we could get another calamity day, like we did in Sept from the windstorm (2 days then for power outages).

Sure hope damage will be minimal from this. But something tells me we're going to have power outages.

Thanks everyone! Glad to have the old computer back on. This site has always been an awesome site with great people like yall. 8-) Back up to almost 80 here today, hot cold hot cold, that's Florida for ya! I'm actually back in Ocala now, I'll have to change my profile. Just a couple weeks ago it was 18 degrees for the low here :cold: I'm ready for springtime!

Left some homemade double chocolate chunk cookies by the stove for anyone who wants one!

Thanks arkess. YUMMY

Just south of me winds were clocked at 92mph!!!!! My power was only out for 8 hours. I had a few limbs down in my yard but no damage. The people across the street had roof and shingle damage and the ones next door lost some siding.
