Amnesty Week's success leads to 1-week extension

The city of Gulfport has decided to extend Amnesty Week for another week.

The city will continue to offer residents the opportunity to come to Municipal Court to pay overdue fines from the city until Friday on most minor crimes without penalty, interest accrued, late fees or fear of jail time.

John Kelly, court administrator, said the city decided to offer this service for another week due to the overwhelming response.

Unlike last week, the city will be considering a wider array of cases, so people with fines related to slightly more serious misdemeanor crimes than traffic tickets should consider contacting the Municipal Court to see if they qualify for this program, Kelly said.
