College courses to understand that quality declines as the volume of goods produced increases? Heck I learn that when I go to a restaurant I loved that became too loved, or a place where everyone wants to go like disney world.

Defending the right thing? Sure, he is correct that everyone starting a business wants to be hugely successful. But should that success come at the expense of your suppliers and employees? You don't see walmart at the top of any lists of great companies to work for! IMO success doesn't include having to buy advertising telling people how wonderful you are. If you are "wonderful" then people will know. Think of the people you hold in your highest esteem. Are they the windbags going on and on about themselves or the humble people who do the right thing whether or not it is the profitable thing.

I don't think that people want them out of business. Walmart caters to people who want inexpensive things. However, in general have a bad reputation of poor employee relations, and questionable business ethics. I understand you and chad like Walmart, but the fact remains Walmart is too big a company, and will always remain a target to for consumers and the like. What I do not agree with is setting up shop near an ancient ruin. That too me that is disrespectful of the Aztec culture.

Uh, low prices=inexpensive things. I doubt I can buy Bruno Magli shoes or Ferragamo shoes at Walmart, or for that matter high end Stacey Adam shoes, nor an ALFANI suit or Armani Suit. They cater to people who do not want to spend a lot of many. You would have to take several business classes (e,g, 5000 courses) to understand how when a company get big like Walmart they encounter huge problems. However, in Walmart's case their vasteness of opening everywhere makes people feel uncomfortable. It all has to do with fair competition. I shop at Walmart with my wife every know and then, but I do not make it a point to do so. I will buy clothes or stuff like that just household stuff. I go to Macy's and Bloomingdales for that...

Well since you are so smart enlighten us as to what problems Walmart is having. Second, if they are having such HUGE problems then why are they the number one retailer. So much for Macy's and Bloomingdales. LOL!! Did you know that you can get those same shoes at discount prices in other stores? If you are iinto paying for a name then more power to you dude.

Buying expensive things does not make you a better person than someone who enjoys shopping at Wally World.

I like the finer things in life. However, Walmart faces many legal obstacles and many problems with employee relations. They are number one because many people in soceity want Walmart because of their low prices. They can give a hoot to their internal problems.

I like Walmart and I hate Walmart. It has good prices. It has a lot of stuff. I buy more than I need and stuff I don't need and spend more money than I should. But that is not their fault, its mine.

Yes at holiday time and start of school time the store does get messy, but have you ever been there late at night? Employees are constantly restocking and straightening up and I never hear them complain about it as I have in other stores. Some people don't put stuff back where it belongs when they decide they a) don't want it b) can't afford it or c) their kid snuck it in the buggy without their knowledge. You can't blame the store for that, its lasy a$$ folks that do that. Wonder if they do that at home?

I have family that works for Walmart and if you are a hard working individual with a brain that functions, you can advance in the company to any level you want. You may have to go to another area, but a chance for advancement is there.

I know here in Pascagoula our local Walmart gave our High School Band a check last year for $1,500.00 to help defray the costs of their trip to London. This was the only store in town that did that and we didn't request it. There were several other charities there that received checks at the same time. This is a bonus that is sent to each store manager that can be spent at the managers discretion. The local Chevron Refinery and Northrup Grumman (formly Ingalls Shipbuilding) gave us $500.00. I will add that Chevron did come back at the end of the year and paid for the 3 charter buses to take them to the airport in New Orleans and were going to pay for it to take us to Atlanta which would have been twice the cost, but thats another story. This was a special circumstance and one of our band parents is a pretty high up person at the refinery and requested this and it had to go to corporate headquarters and get ok'd, was a lot of work, but the band appreciated it greatly.

But my point is, Walmart provides goods to sell, if you don't want to go there don't. They provide jobs in the community and what community doesn't need them. Is unemployment 0 anywhere? And if the company is in trouble, why is the stock going up up up ??????

I agree. If someone doesn't care for a particular store, then just don't shop there.

That's why when I answered this topic, I said I "prefer" to shop at Target. The main reason is clutter! My local Target is very clean and well organized. However, my local Wal-Mart is the opposite by comparison. Many have stated the downside to shopping at Wal-Mart so I won't go there. But again there's a rumor a brand new, super-sized Wal-Mart is going in soon, down the road from our current one. So the jury is still out with me. Let me just sum up my opinion - if the new store is as nice as I hear some Wal-Mart's can be, then I will definitely check it out. And who knows I may end switching there from Target shopping! But they haven't even broken ground yet....so for now Target is my home in this shopping category.

Now as for Kohl's......I love that store! I like name brands such as Lee, Columbia, etc and even Kohl's brand of clothng. But then again, I like basic, rugged clothing - jeans, cords, sweaters, etc.

If I had an unlimited clothing budget, I'd probably order all my clothes online and buy in season (I buy out of season for deals now) - Eddie Bauer, LL Bean and Lands' End would be MY stores. Maybe Talbots for something formal (hardly ever need these items though!).

I've been biting my tongue since this thread appeared (yes, I'm a little ahead on my school work so I've got time to post lol!)

Everyone knows my feelings on Hell Mart, I DISPISE this company with a PASSION, SIMPLY because I've seen NUMEROUS friends/family LOOSE everything they owned BECAUSE of their business practices....coming into small town America, opening the store (Super WalMarts) with grocery prices "at" or "just below" cost and KEEPING those unusually low prices for 2 months, run mom and pop operations OUT of business, then INFLATE their prices to a "higher zone" price (and YES...it's as PROVEN fact)......and now, I'm FORCED into shopping there with the "Wonderful, I'm hate my job, how can I make you shopping experience a living Hades, just barely making minimun wage, cutting hours just enough to prevent them from getting benefits, employees!" BTW....I'm driving to Flagstaff TODAY to SHOP (a distance of 120 miles one way) for groceries and clothes!

THERE...I feel better, I will now shut up, go get in my car and have a nice road trip to shop Target, Kohls, Popular Outdoor, Fry's FoodMart, Albertsons and PetsMart!

Bass Pro Shops!

Yes they carry Woolrich clothing! I love Woolrich! Expensive yes, but again I try to buy seasonal clothes on sale, for the following season. And their own label, Reflections, isn't half bad. The R. brand khaki's I bought 3 winters ago, are still washing and ironing well - at only $12 on sale. Something redicously cheap, they're comparable to Lee's.

First time I was dragged to a Bass Pro Shop I was bored out of my mind. My daughter and husband were looking at fishing equipment. I saw signs for apparel and thought oh heck, why not check it out. Let's just say they came looking for ME, not the other way around, I wasn't ready to leave yet!!!! LOL

First time I wore a neat Woolrich sweater vest, all my my rather hoity-toity, spending gobs of money on clothes, in-law's jaws dropped - where did you get that vest they wanted to know. You should have heard the gasps I got back in return - he he. "You found THAT beautiful sweater vest in a fishing store? LOL

It looked like it came from Talbot's or Pendelton!!!! Well, it was a Woolrich item ya know.....

Walmart is too freaking far away for me so they rarely get my business. There are four grocery stores between my house and Walmart, along with a hardware store, three clothing stores, two Walgreen's and two CVS drugstores, and a slew of tourist shops. I live on the east end of the island and Walmart is all the way out on the west end of the city.

And then, there's always Ebay.
