Maybe the security people at Claire Duffy's airport were confused but she did report stand offs between Moms and security people over baby formula

with all of this complaining, I havent seen one suggestion on how they could handle this better...you could hide enough stuff in all of those items to blow-up a plane...so I think that they deserve to be trashed until everything settles down, and even then they still need super tight security on these items...stormtruth wrote:I know this sounds negative but people are being made to throw away expensive cosmetics and baby formula at U.S. airports. Also, there is no water on some planes according to this article. I think this is seriously going to affect consumer travel. Those who noticed them hastily shoved mouthwash, toothpaste and sunblock into their luggage, but most did not, unaware of what was playing out at security. Air travel, an Ironman-worthy test of endurance on the best of days, today will stretch every passenger and airline worker to the limit.
At the security line, the usual suspicious objects -- laptops, iPods, killer sneakers -- were all but forgotten as TSA workers shouted at people to throw away eyedrops, lotions, lip gloss, bottled water, anything at all.
One young woman chucked an entire Mario Badescu skincare kit into the trash, looking simultaneously bewildered, enraged and tearful. As a beauty product junkie myself, I felt her pain. I made a show out of jettisoning a small tube of Neosporin so they might not take the half-full tube of $50 sunscreen in my bag. All the while, bits and pieces of the story were bruited about in a strange game of "telephone": "I heard it was nuclear weapons!"
Epic screaming matches broke out over baby formula, with the dueling agendas of protective parents and those protecting us from terrorism locked in steely combat. The hapless woman who runs the day spa at the Jetblue terminal found herself and her stock the subject of intense scrutiny. Who knew what lurked within the colorful jars of pomegranate face cream?
On board the plane now, a member of the flight crew is relating how even they were forced to throw away their lunches. There's no water on board, and we weren't allowed to bring any on board. This should be a fun six hours.

You can also hide explosives in laptops, cameras, shoes, wallets, hats, turbans, body cavities, folds of skin, bras, underwear, clothing, books, etc. Maybe we shoul dban all of those things onboard.
Again, checking these items does nothing for security. Bomnbs can still be detonated remotely if they're in the hold.

Good point. People should fly in the nude with no food or water. That will probably be next and everyone will say, "oh, but we have to for the War on Terror!"

Passengers in Britain faced delays as tighter security was hastily enforced at the country's airports and additional measures were put in place for all flights. Laptop computers, mobile phones, iPods, and remote controls were among the items banned from being carried on board.
Liquids, such as hair care products, were also barred on flights in both Britain and the U.S.

Something tells me that some of you are really taking a VERY serious thing, with a rather callous disregard for just how serious it is--and I won't go into the reasons why--not allowed. Why don't we just give up on the War on Terror altogether, and simply start to study precepts of radical Islam? Something has got to give. I hear this endless litany of complaints; but next to nothing listed as an alternative--- beyond, prehaps total capitulation?

What would you have the government do? Ignore this?
EXACTLY, Sunny... I've been asking this since the first page or so--and as yet received no practical answer.

The inconvience must really stink for alot of people, but until they can finish sorting this mess out and determine that this particular threat is truely over then it just has to be done. Despite some of the complaints I have seen from people having to throw things out most people seem to be accepting it as a necessary inconvience. This system may not be perfect, but the security pros are doing their best to keep people safe and I applaud their efforts.
And by the way the nudist planes sound like a great idea, secure and fun

Just because I think the government has gone overboard on restrictions doesn't mean I want to become an Islamic terrorist. LOL!!!

What part of this don't you understand? Moving liquids from the cabin to the cargo hold does NOTHING to prevent explosives from being detonated. Remote detonation is extremely easy.
The new restrictions are thus 100% completely ineffective against this threat. So my alternative is to let people on the plane with their toiletries. In the long run, we can keep rushing the installation of explosives sniffers to get as many flights as possible covered.

Please explain how the government has gone overboard when UK intelligence says LIQUID BOMBS were going to be used to blow up planes in mid flights killing thousands?
