"Sittin' round the Pot Belly Stove!"

OMG Karan! This was the same storm system that hit us first. Strongest wind gusts here were in the mid 60s. That is incredible! We didn't lose power either but after reading how strong the wind was in your area and that your power went out, I'm thanking my lucky stars today. Our lights flickered a lot though and very large tree branches looked as if they'd snap right off. Our grill moved 4 feet on our back deck and since our windows are so low in the back of the house I could just picture it coming into our family room (not to mention our atrium length back door too). I moved it, in the height of the sirens, wind, pounding rain. That's when I thought to myself, maybe we should have put this grill in the garage for the winter (we have a Trex deck and it can be slick). It's not as if we've been grilling out in the bitter cold, snow, freezing rain, sleet - he he.
During the height of this storm, I thought to myself - now what if it was below 32 and this was snow. It would have been a blizzard!

Hidey Ho everyone! Remember me? Haven't been around much due to ongoing health and other issues. My husband got laid off this week, and with me unable to work life is looking a bit dismal. Lord only knows what's in store for us over the next few weeks.
VB - how did the surgery go for you? My husband has severe apnea and refuses to use a CPAP machine. Can't say I blame him. He's got a deviated septum as well which doesn't help. Just how "minor" was that surgery? Maybe we can squeeze something in while we have insurance for the next few weeks.

Jen - of course we remember you!!!! Long time no see.......welcome back! So sorry to hear about your husband's job situation. That sadly is becoming more and more the norm than the exception. I hope for you both he finds work ASAP. It is just a very scary time.
It's great to see posts from you Jen!

Thanks Mary.
I've been in and out of the US and Winter weather forums, but that's about it for some time. I swear, Ike has left us all with some amount of PTSD, and our side of town just got sideswiped. Still have plenty of visible and unrepaired damage in my area.
I'll try to keep checking back more regularly. I miss my S2K peeps and I'm glad to see so many regulars still here.

Jen, my surgery was very minor day surgery for the turbinates in my nose to be shrunk. If Dave has a deviated septum that is similar, but definitely not as minor as mine was. I had an SMR(surgery for a deviated septum) many years ago. If you really want to look into it I think my ENT is very good and I can give you the info.
Understand the job situation there since I haven't had one since July, but my wife still has a job and that along with my unemployment is getting us by for now.
I'll be keeping you guys in my prayers!!!
How are bells going?
On and in case you haven't read elsewhere I became a granddaddy for the first time on Monday.

Yes! I saw the post about your new Grampy status - great news!
Bells are pretty rough right now. We have very few people and can barely cover 3 octaves. We can only manage that because I, along with 2 others, play 4 in hand. Our biggest problem is finding bass ringers. We're all getting to be old ladies and so many people have been incorrectly "wrist ringing" for so long they're getting hurt on the buckets. Our director knows nothing about bells and rehearsals consist of sight-reading until we can pull off a performance.

96 here on Sunday. No need for the pot belly stove in our part of the country anytime soon! Let's just make sure if we open the porch that there is a fan nearby and a shady place to pass some time away!

The pot bellied stove seating area is now open for business. There are afgans on some chairs and rockers and I believe Karan left some nice hot Earl Grey tea on the stove.
It is time for me to go get some zzzz's. Later!

Thanks for firing up the stove, David - the warmth of the stove feels much better than
sitting out on the porch with that cold wind blowing through!

Ah!! woman you know me well! I was craving some chocolate KK's!
From the looks of it I think we will all need the pbs for a while. Everyone come on in and enjoy. If you see Crouton or Clarabelle running around out in the snow try and get them to come in too.

Bonnie Wee Lassie and Digger want some sausages, please; Seamus MacTuff spied an old pair of boots to chew on, so he's happy...Annabelle (she be a ho') can't see so well, but she smells beef jerky hanging on the counter...I just stepped in for a large, oily, strong cup of coffee before braving the cold tomorrow to help my sister put up the Christmas decorations out in the yard.

Only for the Westies (Digger and Bonnie Wee); I also noticed that, while watching CelticWoman on PBS last night, the Wee Wolves sat at attention when the bagpipes sounded.

Seamus MacTuff is a schnoodle, and he's a terrierist (preference for shoe leather); Annabelle still be a frog-dog ho'. She'll eat ANYTHING.
