Aha...that's it. You know, I thought I remembered seeing him in a hospital when the flashback was on someone else, but that didn't look like him when Kate's mom was in the hospital. I couldn't get the screen shot from the DVD to show up correctly, but it didn't look like him from what I could tell. The view of that guy was at a distant though. So now I know why I thought that. I think I want to watch all of Season 1 again. :)

I don't know how much it cost you to rent Season 1 the first time, but you can buy the first season on DVD from Amazon for $38.99 plus free shipping! It has some nice bonus features as well, including some unaired flashbacks that reveal additional secrets.

If you're interested...

here it is

You know what's going to happen now don't you? We'll all be paying such close attention to background shots - who's in them, what's in them - that we'll miss the current scene they're showing! I can just see me now - who's that in the background, let me get out my magnifying glass and find out. And forget to focus on the backstory they're telling! LOL

What a different Miss Mary we have from just a year ago.

That said, I've tried and tried to get into this show. First I watched a few first run episodes, trying to catch up. Thoroughly confused, but fans seem to be anyway. So I thought okay I'm not alone. Then a string of reruns....I taped them all, have only found time to watch one.

We have 4 shows on Wednesday nights already! And I've decided I just can't take on another.

Good luck trying to figure out Lost. When I heard Letterman had a monologue about this show and how he's so confused, I thought okay even Dave doesn't get it!

What I find confusing but equally interesting, are the flashbacks! So enjoy the show all.....I'll just pass. Had I jumped aboard back in Sept., I'd be somewhat up to speed.

:P :P :P

I'm really glad you finally got into it like the rest of us addicts. If you have a few minutes to spare, go back and read some of the posts in the beginning of the thread. Quite amusing.

One more thing I noticed my girlfriend and I are watch the last episode of the first season and here are a cou0ple of things i noticed...
1. When hurleys car died the digits on the dashboards shows all of the numbers.
2. Just after he buys the scooter from the older gentleman at the airport he passes some girls wearing uniforms... the numbers on the uniforms are 4-8-15-16-23-42...

weird i thought... hurley was getting lots of signs not to get on the plane.

Also the gate at the airport was 23

something else just struck me... The Science Teacher Arzt mentioned that its the brink of monsoon season there and quite possibly in a future episode they could be facing a Willie Willie in a future episode... They would have to get everyone and all their supplies into the Hatch...

Kelly!!! Wow, I've come a long, long way huh? Those other shows I have already - ha, none compare to Lost, none I tell ya! If I had only one hour of current TV to watch, sorry ER but I'd watch Lost.

It was very confusing when I tried jumping in though (mid-season one)......man alive, I felt like I was stranded on that island!

Nathan - I think one aspect fans keep forgetting is time moves very slowly on the island. You have to remind yourself many times, it's not been a year and a half (like it's been from the pilot on, for us). I almost forget Arzt ever existed but in Lost time, he died just weeks ago. And that Monsoon season could be starting! I really am enjoying your fresh perspective and comments.

Mary has indeed come a long way!!

I watched some of the first season today - the ones with Arzt in them. Poor Hurley (when Arzt was blown up). Hurley: that was so messed up. Poor Arzt, he just wanted to feel like part of the group.

Nathan - Lost had a Northern Exposure/Twin Peaks, Disaster type movie feel to it. To me anyway. But I have to say when you mention you're a Lost fan (at parties), you're usually greeted with one of two reactions - oh yeah, me too! Or - wait, that's the show about a plane crash, survivors stranded on an island, right? You say - yes that's the one. And then they say - but there's a polar bear on it? [insert hand on hip now] I have to ask, how can there be a polar bear(s) on a south Pacific island? At this point, you realize, I'd better move onto someone else. Before they say - and isn't there a monster on this island too? And a hatch? LOL

I've had these conversations (with friends and my husband). The show just doesn't seem to attract people who need logical explanations! If that's what you're looking for, Lost isn't for you, my friend....is what I say. LOL

Okay, back to the discussion at hand - Lost!

Great article in Entertainment Weekly, chock full of Lost theories! Enjoy....after reading the 5 or so theories, click on the link and keep going thru the Lost pages. There's a page about Sayid, Charlie, Sawyer. I would have posted all of them but this entire post would be soooo long. So if you have time, definitely click on the Lost pages.

'Lost' Findings

EW senior writer Jeff Jensen solves the show! (Or so he thinks...) Disagree with him? Then post your own best guesses about the hatch, the Dharma Initiative, and other mysteries

http://www.ew.com/ew/article/commentary ... 0_,00.html

Every month EW will turn to our shadowy operative inside the world of Lost for insight. Burn this when you're done. The truth is out there.

1. THE ISLAND: It's Alive!
Our theory of Lost begins with the question posed in the pilot by smack-addled rocker Charlie: ''Guys...where are we?'' Some have argued that the island could be a hallucination — ''A Psychological Shipwreck,'' to use the title of an 1879 short story by Lost-linked author Ambrose Bierce. Or an alien twilight zone. It's tempting to go with ''limbo'' — an elastic enough idea to corral the show's incredible coincidences and odd details, like a smoke monster and a band of child-swiping Others. But we believe the survivors of Oceanic Flight 815 aren't stuck in a mass delusion or a satanic mousetrap. They're alive on the island. A haunted island. And it was made that way by the Dharma Initiative.

2. THE DHARMA INITIATIVE: Head Games
What we know about Dharma is incomplete at best, utterly bogus at worst. According to a choppy ''orientation film'' found in the hatch, Dharma founders Gerald and Karen DeGroot established a research facility on the island in the 1970s to conduct experiments in meteorology, zoology, electromagnetism, psychology, and parapsychology — a dubious science that believes the brain houses mind-over-matter powers. (Think X-Men, Jedi Knights, and sci-fi author Robert Heinlein, whose 1941 short story Lost Legacy is about kids realizing their psychic potential under the tutelage of — COINCIDENCE ALERT! — Ambrose Bierce.) Our theory is that intentionally or not, the Dharma team pulled loose psychic powers from one of its test subjects — skip to No. 5 for the answer about who that might be — with disastrous results. How? With fear. Where? Where else, down in...

3. THE HATCH: Human Testing
The orientation film claims the hatch was originally used to study the island's ''unique'' electromagnetic energy. And indeed, there is a curious wall that seems to be humming with the stuff. But the filmstrip also states that the DeGroots were following B.F. Skinner, a psychologist famous for his Skinner boxes: controlled environments used to study animal behavior. Folks, the hatch is a human Skinner box.

Why wasn't this mentioned in the orientation film? Because the orientation film is part of the experiment! The film was fiction, designed to induce paranoia and fear and observe the test subject's reaction. What Dharma was studying was the behavior every Lost fanatic engages in: the human imperative to organize seemingly random details into some kind of order. The problem is that someone — someone we haven't seen or met yet — was put in the hatch and had a psychic break of world-altering proportions.

4. THE NUMBERS: Those Damn Yankees!
It has been Lost's most baffling conundrum: the seemingly inexplicable connection between Hurley's havoc-causing Lotto picks — 4 8 15 16 23 42 — and the hatch's computer code. This is a two-part riddle. First, the original purpose of the numbers: Skinner box experiments require test subjects to execute empty tasks, like pulling levers or, say, inputting digits into a computer. The Dharma-ites chose the sequence because...they were big Yankee fans, and each number correlates to a retired Yankee jersey. But the second question is far more important: What purpose do the numbers serve now? There are lots of out-there (and fun) ways to go with this, but the truth is that the numbers don't do anything. The ''cursed'' digits are just one more sinister detail in Dharma's elaborate sleight of hand intended to freak out test subjects. The problem was that extreme stress on the subject in the hatch combined with the electromagnetic energy down there to jar loose some suppressed psychic powers. And it jarred them loose in the wrong individual. In that explosive moment, the once meaningless digits were encoded with devilish life. Hence, Hurley's bad luck, and a virus that is rewriting reality on the island.

5. THE ANSWER TO 'LOST': The Island Is Haunted by a Powerful Psychic
The Dharma experiments resulted in the creation of a potent disembodied being. A being deeply steeped in pop culture — think about all the novels, comic books, and random flotsam that make up the DNA of Lost — and powerful enough to bring those bits of pop culture to life. Someone who imprinted his consciousness on the island. Someone whose radioactive corpse was walled up in the hatch. Someone named Aaron.

So how did the Oceanic crew end up on the island? Aaron summoned them, because he has as-yet-undetermined uses for each of them...and he needed a new body. The body of a then-unborn baby. Claire's baby. Which is why the Others (Aaron's followers) have tried to kidnap her child. And why they had to snatch poor, psychic Walt — remember that dead bird from season 1? — who was the only one with the ability to see through their plan.

Of course, the castaways could all be dead. It could be a mass hallucination. The Others could be trying to secure franchise rights to the Twilight Zone Dairy Queen. But this is our story, and we're sticking to it. At least until the start of the next episode.

Mary, those are all pretty good theories and do make sense. As they said at the end, "... this is our story and, we're sticking to it. At least until the start of the next episode." Looks like lost is taking the whole country by storm.

I had one idea that popped into my head and here it is. When people pass on to the next life sometimes they are suspended in Nirvana until thier soul can pass onto wherever it is going. That's just a theory but, it would suck if it was true.

couple things I noticed in the past two weeks watching some episodes over was that...

1. Shannons Dad died at 8:15 and again the number pop up still.
2. I didn't understand why Locke when they found the Heroin and after boone's burial... Why he do something about it knowing that charlie is an addict? I don't understand that did he want charlie to face it again and ruin his relationship with Claire?
3. I hope that Kate will be proved innocent and set free after she get off the island.
4. After Claire relizes and remembers the good relationship with charlie will she befriend him again. He was really close to Aaron and helped get him back.
5. I hope they don't make us wait another two weeks for a new episode.

New episode on Wednesday, but two repeats on March 8th and 15th, and then new on the 22nd, and two repeats after that. After April 12th it will(if they stick to this), run repeat-free until the end of the season.
