What is going on?

#1 Postby feederband » Sat Feb 23, 2008 8:17 am

Mods you can lock this if you want...

WHATS up with all personal attacks?

I have had 2 surgery's in that last 2 monts and have't been able to sit at the computer desk very long to post...But when I have been lurking can't believe what I have been seeing...

Read your post before you hit submit...If you feel your post is going to invite a negative response why post it? If your post is just going to derail the whole thread why post it? We all have opions just put the IMO in the post...You can probably change just one or two words in a post to make it not provoke another poster and still get your point across..

It would be different if it was newbies creating the problems but its not...

There has been a surge of aggresion lately and I don't know why. Two threads have been locked because the conversation has gone personal and off-course. Everyone here needs to respect everyone's opinions and if you're going to disagree, don't go personal and act polite. It's not that difficult. Don't let you emotions take hold of you.

Good points feederband and HURAKAN.

As I recently told someone, if you think that your post is going to draw some criticism of your opinion, that's the risk YOU are taking. We want open discussions, not personal attacks. If you feel like you can't have an open discussion about a certain topic, don't get involved. It's as simple as that, I don't know what else to tell you. If you insist on getting carried away with your postings to the point of personal attacks, the posts will be removed and you will be suspended. End of story.

Maybe because this forum leans towards tropical weather, especially tropical weather in the Atlantic and EastPac, with a secondary interest in winter weather that tends to affect the same areas affected by tropical weather (as that seems to be where most of the posters live), ie, the Southeast, Gulf and East Coasts, and except for a couple of severe weather outbreaks the last few weeks, not a lot has happened?

Especially with the third major area of interest, football (college and pro) over.

The main Spring severe season, slowly transitioning to tropical season, will give peoplle something else to talk about, and things will get smoother again, if I had to guess.

Yeah, I thought about that too. :uarrow:

But this snipping has to stop. Geeze! I thought we were all "friends".
It is unfortunate when you can't express your opinion without getting hammered.
Yeah, I stay away from a lot of topics. ON PURPOSE!

Ya know - I think I'm going to go further than what I said before.
I too have had some health issues in the last few months which not only limits my time on the board (may be logged on but not reading) but also extemely busy at work.
Not all of us have the time or conditions where we can be on the board all the time and also post.

I'm with the mods on this one. Sorry folks. There is a time and place for everything. There is also a time and place to "spew". I have a lot of friends/co-workers and I don't go into politics/religion ----- (fill in the blank) with them because I like and respect them. I know we have different opinions on things - so do me and my husband. He said the other day "can't we all just get along". Surprised the heck out of me! But, yeah.....

Three letters. S.A.D. It affects some people that don't even realize they have a problem. Shorter days, less sunlight, colder temps for most..it really is an issue that doesn't get the attention it deserves.

Some of these "disputes" are exactly why political posts were banned.

My experience on message boards, personal attacks and shake ups are more common in the summer time and Christmas season.

It could have something to do with the constant reporting of the economic collapse of the country and peoples homes values falling. That kind of stuff makes people cranky.

:uarrow: It's the true and it's happening. We shouldn't get cranky but talk about possible scenarios and solutions to the problem. Attacking each other is not going to solve anything or make people feel better.

You've got to be real careful in this site. You cannot just speak your mind. If someone posts something you consider foolish or just plain stupid.....keep your fingers off the keyboard. You can get banned in here without warning. It has happened to me.

The warning is in the rules and the e-mail that you receive telling you that you were suspended.

We do like to try and have open discussions and when there is a questionable post we will keep an eye on the thread to make sure it doesn't get out of hand. We do believe in freedom of speech.

What I find amazing is that I'm seeing complaints on both sides of the spectrum - becareful what you post because you may get banned and then some are saying that the staff isn't doing enough to eliminate sarcastic, potentially bashing or political posts. We're between a rock and a hard place folks and I guess it's a part of the job.

What I find is happening is people are disagreeing with others and aren't being respectful of the other persons point of view. You can nicely explain your beliefs and carry on a respectful conversation but some of you weren't. Treat others with the respect you wish to be treated with and you in turn should be treated with respect. Unfortunately, this was happening.

...but then people will be bashed because of "-removed-," when they're actually discussing the system. Additionally, there will be people who interject their -removed- into forecasts. There will be endless arguments about systems that "should have been upgraded", too.

In my experience, the Atlantic TC season is hardly "uniting" on this board. Winter and severe wx is more peaceful in the weather forums.

And let me guess; if you contact a member over a questionable post, they reply with "well so-and-so said this". Every....single....time.
