Hallandale Beach man hops over wall on I-95, falls to his death

Hallandale Beach - A family's eyes were red and their cheeks tear-stained Sunday afternoon, hours after a 30-year-old man fell from Interstate 95 to his death in what Fort Lauderdale police are calling an accident.

Early Sunday, Montero, Pearson and two friends were on that same road headed home from the Port Hole Pub in Pompano Beach when they got snarled in a traffic jam created by an accident. As traffic crawled along I-95, Montero realized he had to use the bathroom.

Eventually, at about 12:35 a.m., he persuaded Pearson to pull over to the right shoulder near State Road 84. Apparently thinking he was jumping over the barrier wall to get some privacy, he suffered the fatal fall.

As he approached the wall, everyone in the car saw the drop and screamed, "Wait!" Collins said. But it was too late. Montero put his hand on the concrete wall and leaped over, she said.
