Has anyone re-bloomed a Pointsettia in Florida?

As dumb luck would have it I have managed to keep a Pointsettia alive from last Christmas and it is thriving. I would like to give this Pointsettia back to my friend that gave it to me last Christmas but not sure if I need to keep it in the dark or not here in Florida for it to bloom again. I have another friend here that says her's that she planted in the ground several years ago re-blooms every year right on time. Has anyone here in Florida or any other southern state, successfully had one re-bloom in Florida without having to put in a dark room for 12+ hours a day? Does re-blooming a Poinsettia in Ohio count?

My mom did that - years ago when we had a house. She chose a specific window (facing east maybe? I forget....). Years later she would tell me to save my poinsettias, for the following year.

I would look at her and think she was just crazy - keeping an ugly plant around for what, 10 months? LOL

But she did it, so I know it can be done.

I have never kept one in a pot that long before but I have several in the ground and they bloom every year. The oldest is about 4 years and about 4' tall.

I don't see why you would need to put it in the dark - unless you are trying to get it to go dormant.

Our neighbor has one in the ground they cut down every year after it blooms or in spring and it regrows and is covered in beautiful blooms around November. The plant is located on the North side of her house and gets full sun to partial sun during the day. I think it will be just fine without moving it, I would leave it wherever you have had it thriving and it should bloom just fine. I think the reason people up north but them in dark is to trick them into blooming, here in FL its warm enough and sunny enough where that is not an issue. Good luck.

Thanks for the responses! I think I'm just going to leave it where it is since it has done so well. I must admit it sound so much easier, I'm too lazy and forgetful to remember a plant twice a day!
