I Just Won The Difficult Level Of Spider Solitaire!

#1 Postby abajan » Sun Mar 29, 2009 9:41 pm

Spider solitaire comes bundled with Windows XP but I only started playing it about a month ago. IMO, the easy level is simply too easy to be any fun and should only be played to learn the game.

The medium level is much more challenging but after playing it a few times, it becomes pretty easy to win, most of the time.

The real challenge (and frustration) starts at the difficult level. As soon as you think you're getting somewhere, WHAM! dealing a new set of cards totally messes up everything. I must have attempted this level several dozen times over the last month or so. It requires tremendous patience and strategy but contrary to what I was beginning to believe, it can be won. Searching the Net for tips certainly helped. One tip I found particularly helpful was to take 5 minute breaks during a game to stretch your legs. When you return to the computer, you notice plays that had been previously overlooked.

If you've never played spider solitaire, give it a try. Caution: It can be addictive! :)

I play spider here at work all night, except when I'm checking the weather. I win at the medium level about 20% of the time. I have tried the difficult level a couple of times but don't have the desire to play at that level. Good luck.....MGC

Congrats!

I think I tried playing it once. I'm sticking with Freecell and Maj Jong for now. ;)

My mum plays spider quite a lot. She's won on the difficult level a few times.

I play the second level occasionally and win a lot. I've only tried the third level a few times. It's HARD.

Congratulations.

According to one of the tips I saw, playing Freecell helps you to get better at Spider Solitaire.

I'll have to go back and revisit the Spider then. :)

I last played Freecell some months ago but...

wait for it...

I JUST WON ANOTHER GAME OF SPIDER SOLITAIRE at the difficult level! :woo: And this time it was done in 200 moves with a score of 1100 (the previous winning game was won in 284 moves with a score of 1016.)

Perhaps I should play a couple games of Freecell to see if I can improve my skills even more.

Stephanie, you're not gonna believe this but I just won it yet again! And I haven't even been playing Freecell to help either
This time I scored 1112 points in 188 moves. I guess as with everything else, the more you do it, the better you get at it but this is only about the 4th game since my last win.

EDIT (April 7, 9:30 PM Barbados Time) - Just won for the 4th one... Score 1082 in 218 moves.
This particular one was quite strange: It started out very easy, with me being able to turn over all of the cards (and suits coming together quickly) except one and not a single deck having been dealt up to that point. Then it got difficult fast. It was only after the penultimate (or perhaps even the last) deck was dealt that I was able to clear the first suit off of the playing area.
