DONATIONS TO STREETSOLIDER and FAMILY

#1 Postby Guest » Sat Aug 16, 2003 3:46 pm

I am accepting donations for funds via PAYPAL. Go to http://www.paypal.com

and input pdherman@ev1.net and donate the amount you wish. All the monies will be then sent to Bill in the form of a money order.

I will keep a list of all the donations - but what each person gives will be confidental.

Please be generous and give to a fellow Storm2k'er in need.

Sincerely
Patricia - aka Ticka1

I don't know if this reply should go here or in the other thread, but it might get lost in the shuffle over there. Everyone knows that checks take time to clear, and for an out-of-town check, it could be up to 10 days. Most money orders work the same way as a personal check. I've received money orders before (the kind you get at the grocery store) and my bank wouldn't cash it. I had to deposit it and wait about 10 days before the money was available. Western Union also has money orders which seem to clear within a day or two, (At least mine did), but you still have to deposit them in your bank acocunt. The Western Union centers will not cash it! There's also US Postal Service money orders which can be cashed immediately at a post office. The drawback is that the recipient has to go to a post office. Wiring money through Western Union would be kind of a pain too. The recipient has to get to a Western Union center and declare how much they are expecting, and if multiple transactions are pending, the amount may be unsure. I hate to say send cash, but if well concealed, the odds are probably 98% or better that it will get there. With the deadline at play in this situation, I don't think that anyone can wait 10 days for these things to clear, especially if mailed.

OK correction, The above applies to those who can't use PayPal (like me.) If anyone wants to send anything directly to Bill, the above is applicable. Also, Ticka, I'm sure that you'll be in touch with him and make arrangements so that the $$ will be available quickly. Also, many of the above methods have dollar limits too. Ticka, I'm sure that you're on top of all this, but having been in situations myself, I know the ins and outs of sending $$ fast!

approximately three to five days before
I can call the bank and verify the "2 small deposits"
that Paypal put into my account!

Yes Breeze they have to verify your bank account is valid and functional. And Ed - I knew some of the restricitions - but I didn't realize all of them you just posted.

Maybe once we have a cutoff for the donations maybe we can meet in the chatroom and best decide how for me to send the money.

If you have a credit card its faster to donate then using your bank account if you are new to paypal.

If anyone else has any other suggestions or ideas - please post them. I'm just tryint to do the best I can for our members and those in need.

Oh, ticka, we know that you are doing the best that you
can - and, this is a wonderful thing for us to help
our friend, Bill! Some of us weren't pre-registered with
PayPal, and, we know that time is a factor. Pardon me for
thinking out loud, here...I am just trying to figure out the fastest
way to get the $$$ to Bill, just from my situation.

Please don't think that I am fussing, or, anything. I am just trying
to beat time.

Here's a thought. Does anyone live close enough to Bill, to drop off donations? That we can trust, of course. That member could provide us with a PO Box #, and we could send cash. Bill could have the money by mid-week I'd say.

I belong to another message board, not wx related, but private. To pay the annual fees, we all chip in the same way. Sending cash. Works great.

Mary, pawlee and wx247 live "closest" to me, but they are still about 250+ miles away.

I'm 30 miles due south of Cape Girardeau, MO, and another 6 miles west of I-55 N-S...if necessary, directions will be given.

Garrett - ok that was you. I was trying to figure out who that person was who made that donation.

Thank you very much. I received it.

Thanks,
Patricia

To enable it to get to Bill sooner, I am going to conceal some cash and send it to him.

I want to be sure it gets there sooner.

Here in Evansville IN, it looks like I'm about 140 mi. from you Bill - as the crow flies.
I'm opting for direct cash for speed and privacy (not privacy from S2K members, but from my husband  . He's still a little fuzzy about this online friendship thing.)

Donna!!! That's one reason why I mentioned cash! I have the same situation here too. Hubby posts on local music boards but since he's in the music biz, he knows these posters. He just shakes his head at me posting on boards like this. You should hear my Mom!!!! She thinks I'm going to be abducted or something, someday. LOL

Cashier's checks are another way to send money without having to worry about cash getting lost/stolen in the mail system. In regards to money orders, I have been selling on eBay for over a year now and get a lot of money orders from all over the country. I have always been able to cash those instantly. Also, Bill could let us know what big nationwide banks he has nearby such as Bank of America or whomever. He can take checks written from those banks directly to that bank and cash them immediately, even without having an account. Thanks everyone for helping out a friend in need. I know we'll help Bill get through this.

The biggest bank in town is Montgomery First National Bank, and that's where we have an account. The "big boys" don't have branches here...maybe in STL, 230 miles north, or in Memphis, 260 miles south.

USBANK (which is where I bank)
2 locations: 1 on Center St. and 1 on Main St.
