I started my first job today...well sorta

#1 Postby OtherHD » Mon Aug 18, 2003 6:50 pm

As most of you know, back in May I was interviewed with Lockheed Martin for a job during my senior year in conjunction with my school's Co-Op program. In June, I was officially accepted for the job, which was to start today at 1pm. Unfortunately, I had no idea who I would be working with, where I would be working, or what I would be doing. So I came today only knowing how much the job payed. Well, here's how my first day went...

I had my normal classes, and was let out at 11:48am. I got to Lockheed at 12:40, and was taken to be briefed about LM's safety codes, rules, yadda yadda. I got a badge, watched a few videos about safety, and found out that I would actually be working at JSC (Johnson Space Center), rather than at the Lockheed complex. At around 3:30, me and the 3 other Co-Op students were told that we would go meet our supervisors. Well, as luck would have it, my supervisors weren't available at that time, so they sent me home an hour early.

So as it stands, I STILL have no idea what I'll be doing.

I'll keep y'all updated as soon as more details come in (if ever).

Wow that's awesome. Lockheed is such a terrific company to get in with, which I'm sure you're aware of. Best of luck with your new job. :D

Lyle, I wish you luck with your new job. If it doesn't work out, it isn't the end of the world. Getting this job is wonderful. Even if you don't have it for "too long," you still would of spent some time at Lockheed-Martin (the Johnson Space Center). :)

Congratulations on the new job, even though, that job still remains of a mystery of your actual tasks at hand.

HD... sounds like you are involved in a great program. I wish we would have had something like that at our high school. Let us know when you actually do something, though, okay? ;)

Okay, well it's my third day on the job and I FINALLY did something useful today...

Yesterday was my first day at JSC. I actually found out what department I was in...the image analysis department. One of the biggest things my department has done in the past year is analyze movies of the tests done after the Columbia explosion. Unfortunately, all I did yesterday was sit in front of a computer and explore my department's website (Yes, that's all I did for 3 hours...blah). But today, they had me enter data onto a spreadsheet from those movies I referred to. At least that kept me occupied! It was kind of fun too...

JSC Lyle? Wow, what great experience! I'm glad that you got to do something today. It does help make the day go faster when you are active and ENJOYING what you are doing.

Good Luck with the job! :D
