USGS Event Deleted

#1 Postby Dionne » Wed Aug 26, 2009 11:09 am

I just received a notice of a 6.0 earthquake in south central Alaska. Two minutes later I receive a notice of "Event Deleted".

I went to the USGS site only to discover a 3.7 earthquake recorded a precisely the same time further out the Aleutians......about 700 miles from the previous notice.

How is this possible? I've been following earthquakes since I was a kid after having gone through the 9.2 in '64. I've never seen a series of notifications like this......???? USGS has always been spot on when it comes to notifications. This is strange.
