Just got back from the Dr.

He said my lungs already sound clearer since I started the Zyban and the
Nicotrol Inhaler. :D He said not to forget that I have to use it for 6 mths.
I also have to take 1/2 Xanax twice per day. That calms the jitters that I get if I take the Zyban alone. I hit a really rough patch last Tuesday. I didn't take the Xanax with it. I really came unglued. Crying and shaking.
I was scared to death something bad was happening to me. I took a half
a Xanax and it calmed me right down about 30 min. or so later. Now I don't take one without the other. I guess whatever works. I'm scared to think whats going to happen to me when I run out of Xanax. No refills and
I don't see him again for 6 weeks.
Any suggestions anyone?

Debbie... glad that you got a good report. I don't know much about medicine so I can't help you out there, but I do know that you remain in my thoughts and prayers.

How long does your current prescription for Xanax last? If you are still feeling shaky and anxious after it is done, I would call your doctor to ask for another refill.

As you are slowly getting used to not having nicotine in your system, the anxiety and shaky feelings you are having should subside. Just stay in touch with your doctor and let him know when you are having a problem. I'm sure that at the very least he'd want you to come in earlier to see you if you are still feeling anxious after your prescription is done.

Deb, I am glad you are doing better. Congratulations and good luck! :)

Your doctor should have told you that you have to be waned off of Xanax. I know that if one isn't waned off of the medicine correctly you really will have the jitters and shakes.

Debbie, I'm praying for you daily....and also have a suggestion. When I'm nervous (or depressed), I jump online and surf the search engines (lose myself in cyberspace); or more recently, I come here and play on the games forum (and I've been very depressed lately as evidenced by all my posts)....but when I lose myself in cyberspace, it takes my mind (and bad nerves) off my problems.

I wish you the best...both of my youngest sisters (Maria and Beth) smoke, and it worries me to death -- we've already lost two uncles to lung cancer...and a great aunt from emphysema...all three were heavy smokers :cry:

Xanax is a useful drug...but it is also one upon which you can become dependent. You need to ask your doctor if there is an alternative that can help.

You are right...Xanax takes the edge off of situations...but not sure how it works in combination with other drugs. Just be careful and use it wisely.

We have a Xanax prescription here...used very sparingly.

My mother was taking Xanax a few years ago. Not being told to wean off of the dependent drug, she was very sick for a number of days, if not a week or two.

Deb, I, too, am glad you are doing good and your lungs are clearing. I need to follow your lead! :D Like has been posted already though, be very very careful of the Xanax! Xanax is a highly addictive drug and the physical withdrawals from Xanax are worse than heroin. I have had plenty of experience seeing people detox from both. I am not trying to scare you b/c it can be just what you need, just be aware of the amount you are taking and the reasons. I am very happy that you are able to quit smoking!! I know how hard it is and I admire your dedication.

Geez, I didn't realize that Xanax was that addicting and difficult to get off of. I would still talk to your doctor anyway and see what he can suggest for you as a subsitute.

Debbie,

Try drinking some Tahitian Noni Juice or just take half of a xanax instead of a whole one. Do you have the white, orangish/pink or blue ones? Or have your pharmacy call your doctor for a refill.

Don't feel bad, most people have no idea how addictive it is. They correlate it to valium and valium is not nearly as addictive as Xanax. I have a friend who is still fighting the effects of detoxing off of it. I am not saying that it is not a drug that works, b/c it is. it is just so easy to get addicted to it. Most people can take it with no problems, but some cant. It is just something that needs to be monitored and taking a half pill instead of a whole is a great way to control the intake!

It is very addicting. People break into drugstores and committ armed robbery to get it. Xanax right along with Oxycontin.

Not to worry guys. All I'm taking is 1/2 a day,
instead of 2x per day as he told me to. I just don't want to take any chances. I have the orange one.
