Bungee Jump Gone Bad

#1 Postby southerngale » Wed Oct 07, 2009 11:10 am

Man survives 165-foot plunge after botched bungee jump.

See video here:

Bungee jumping has never been something I wanted to try. I'm not sure why, other than it just doesn't seem like a fun thing to do. Nevermind incidents like this.

I wouldn't do it either but some people like to feel the rush of living at the edge. Pure adrenaline.

Aw come on guys, you know its more dangerous to hop in your cars everyday than it is to bungee jump. I always wanted to do it and never did before my kiddies were born. Im not as inclined to do so now though. But I will jump out of a plane one day, and it will probably be with my girls. Two of the three have my crazy genes. :P

That fellow in the video is dang lucky. I guess that blessing he gave himself before the jump may have helped. There were definitely some angels watching him. Hitting the water going that fast it might as well have been concrete, I think the way he hit going cannywompas a limb was able to break the surface tension before his whole body hit so it softened the landing.

"you know its more dangerous to hop in your cars everyday than it is to bungee jump" True that!!

I have always wanted to bungee jump, and jump out of airplanes. This weekend im going to be 60 feet up doing a High Ropes course, and then ziplining after words(along with other things). I love that sort of thing.

Nope, doesn't interest me, never has. Just doesn't look like my kind of fun.

When my youngest son was overseas, he tried bungee jumping. On his first jump the bungee cord wrapped around his neck and nearly killed him. The operator of the jump said we will not charge for that jump and give you another try free. My son was stupid enough to accept. But then again , he is the one I stopped from running out of the house with two knives to kill a guy, the guy had picked him up and body slammed him down in the grass. My son did not like grass on his back because it made him itch.

Well folks....I have jumped out of airplanes during my Infantry years....all training, no combat jumps. And I have jumped long distances both intentionally and unintentionally on alpine skis while racing.

Even if I were a young man again....it is unlikely that I would bungee jump. I don't like the idea of a commitment you have no control over.

Although, I will admit that BASE jumping has a certain appeal.

Ten years ago, I would have tried bungee jumping - now, I'm afraid I would have a big
heart attack or jerk something in my body loose even if the cord held up...whiplash...oh,
I can think of all kinds of things, now!

This is what I did last weekend:

Image
Looking up!

Image
Getting strapped in for an adventure!

Image
I'm in the blue shirt in the top right. The person bungeeing is one of my friends, and the other two in blue shirts behind her are also from my campus.

Image
Everyone from my college is wearing blue shirts, including the bungee-er.

Image
There she goes!!

Image
I Ziplined down (this is not me).

I hope to have more pictures soon.
