Vista vs Windows 7

#1 Postby CajunMama » Tue Oct 27, 2009 8:31 pm

My laptop came with vista and i haven't had any problems with it. I have the option of upgrading for free to windows 7. And if i do choose to upgrade will it take vista off my laptop or do i have to do that manually?

Wow, didn't even know there was a Windows 7.
If its that new I would definitely wait and see how others like or hate it
and read a lot of reviews. Also being so new there could be a lot of bugs.
Thats just me though. Heck I got my computer a few years ago when VISTA
first came out but XP came already installed. I sent away for the free VISTA
upgrade and still haven't installed it. lol.

I don't know if it will take Vista off of your laptop, but my sister and brother both downloaded the Beta versions of Windows 7 and love it. My brother partitioned a part of the hard drive so they could choose to use Windows 7 or Vista, but I think that was only because it was the Beta version. I'm not sure how it would work now. From every comparison I've seen thus far, from Beta trial users to experts, everyone seems to think Windows 7 is MUCH improved over Vista.
I bought my new computers in late spring. I'll have to buy Windows 7 if I want to upgrade and I'd like to know the answer to the Vista question as well. And will everything transfer over or do you have to start over from scratch?
I'd also like to find out if I could buy it once for all of my computers. I'm not paying that much for each computer, but if one purchase would put it on each computer, I'm sure I will. From what I've seen, it's worth the upgrade.

I just got a new computer and also have the option to upgrade to Windows 7. Waiting to see how the reviews come in from people that do upgrade. I can't believe how much faster the new computer is compared to my seven year old dinosaur LOL.

You suppose to order the Windows 7 online (should mail to you on a disk). Your computer manufacturer should give you detail on how to order it. Just search the manufacturer website and you should find it. It is free if you live in US.

So far I heard a lot of positive things about Windows 7. Overall it is an improvement over Vista and I think it is worth the time to get the free upgrade. I had Windows 7 installed on my laptop and so far it did not disappointed me.

One question, how much of a memory hog is it? The desktop PC I believe is only 1 gig of ram and it's XP, the laptop is Vista and 2 gigs of ram, inquiring minds wanna know :D Worse comes to worse I'll have to unpack my PC and give the ram to the hubby, I haven't used it in over a year

what improvements are there supposed to be? Was Vista particulary buggy?

I have used windows 3.1, 95, 2000, NT, ME, and XP. I think that out of the bunch, XP is the best, and 2000 is next best. I have had very few problems with either. ME was bad, and NT was limited in its capabilities, but you couldn't kill it if you tried. I'm still using XP at work and on 3 out of four machines at home with no complaints.

Interestingly, they're still supporting 2000, and I saw somewhere that XP will be supported until 2013 or something.

What was the big deal about Vista? Is it proving unpopular - or is it just time for Microsoft to up the ante against Apple?

All I have heard it is probably one of the best and bug free systems Microsoft has ever released. And they say your computer runs so much better you will be shocked. I hear you don't have to wait for bugs to get worked out with this one. I know several that have been running it for months in the beta with absolutely no problems at all.

Vista = Consumes to much RAM, laggy, too many glitches and bugs, and a lot of old programs are not compatible,,,

Just built semi new system and used the new 64 bit Windows 7. IMO it will stop the Apple commercials. :D http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... -_-Product Oh and there are lots of old programs that will not work. So if you've invested in a lots of high end 32bit software be sure to check you vendors website to make sure the program will run with the new OS. For me its the best operating system that Microripoff has put out. This verison of Windows is for real, it really does work.

My semi new system
Window 7 64bit
Intel Duo 2.5Ghz running at 3.5Ghz
7200rpm Terabyte
Asus P5N-D motherboard SLI
4 gigs DDR2
2 Geforce 9800GTs

When I bought my laptop , it came with Vista Home Premium and it qualified for an upgrade to Windows 7. I sent for the upgrade and filled out the form saying my laptop was a 32 bit machine . The up grade that was sent arrived yesterday and it is for a 64 bit. So the upgrade is useless to me. So on Nov 29th I bought a new desktop , a HP Pavillion p6243w-b model with a 20 inch wide screen monitor. It came with Windows 7 already installed.

Windows 7 blows Vista out of the water. I just installed this last night (straight from XP) and so far I have no complaints, much faster and just overall very smooth to navigate. My new favorite OS.

Windows 7 is ok. A lot better than Vista. But it isn't enough to cause me to switch back . . . . dealing with Windows and PCs in general still drives me up a wall.

Windows 7 rocks!! I have had very few problems with it. I never had any experiance with Vista, but it is much better than XP (which I love as well). The sticky notes are awesome, as are the gagets. There are a lot of very useful changes in Windows 7 that I very much like. I 100% recommend it.
