periodically they auction off machines at my work that are not up to speed with all the latest applications, but are fine for home use.

Nice, especially for $45. Put a little bit of money in it, and I'm sure it could be a really nice computer (maybe some more ram, depending on what will be done with it). where can I get in on these? :lol:
