Idiotic Tripod.com policy

#1 Postby Southernmost Weather » Thu Aug 21, 2003 12:38 pm

Due to a change in display advertising policy at Tripod.com, my web site has been taken down while I search for a new host.

Members used to have a choice in the style of advertising that would be placed as part of the package for having Tripod host the site for free. The choices used to be embedded ads or pop-up ads. Now, members have no choice and are forced to accept embedded ads which Tripod places ANYWHERE they please on the page. As a result, it's next to impossible to design an eye-pleasing web page when Tripod places a standard banner size ad in a space not designed for it. Sure, I could change the layout of the page. However, this change came without any warning to members and that's the crux of the biscuit here.

I guess I am one of the few in this country who does not believe in credit cards, so until I can find another host that accepts cash payments or hosts for free without a ton of ads, my web site is history.

Sorry to hear about your site Southernmost. I've made it for about 12 years w/o credit cards, but it can be inconvenient in this world. We are searching for a mortgage, unsucessfully, so far, without a proven credit history. In the words of one mortgage broker, "we don't exist."

Hey Harry, I know how you feel...I also own no credit cards. Tripod has a history of assinine policies like this... a good friend of mine had a weather website on Tripod and he was furious with their policies and lack of service before purchasing his own dot.com in 2002.

I've alwayed enjoyed your website Harry. Best of luck on finding a wonderful new host. :)

Harry, how big is your web-site. We may be able to offer you a temporary host while you're searching for a new one :-) If you can PM me with the details we'll see what we can do to help :-)
