Re: Explosion in Oslo
BBC is now saying at least one arrested in the shootings at the camp and that they are connected to the bombing. Still unfolding to say the least. What a horribly tragic situation. Prayers going out for all of Norway and especially for those directly affected by this violence.

Re: Explosion in Oslo
Much of my family is from Sweden, and Scandinavia has always seemed like the happiest, most peaceful and secure place on Earth. I've developed a hard heart toward events in the news over the past decade, but this one hurts me. Prayers for Norway tonight.

Re: Explosion in Oslo
My thoughts and prayers go to our friends in Norway today. I'm so glad that they at least have arrested one person.

I don't think Norway wants to become a militarized police state, in fact the government stated they will do the exact opposite because once they fall into that trap, the aggressor automatically wins. This I believe is the right thing.

Anything less than the death penalty would be a major injustice. 21 years is ridiculous, I hope he/they doesn't get that or god forbid less!
This two-pronged attack on Norway is very puzzling in many ways. First of all, there should be more news coverage of this despite it already being the top news story for most news carriers. Second, How on earth were all those explosives placed near some of the most prominent buildings in the entire country! Where is the security and how did this guy manage to place tons and tons of fertilizer (if that was what was used) in the right position without being noticed? Continuing:
3. On the island where the shooting took place, how did the guy get a hold of a police uniform?
4. The time between when the shooting first started and when police finally got a hold of him was 1 full hour! What in lord's name were the police doing??? He should have been brought down within minutes but instead after mowing 85 people down, the police capture him. What kind of police force takes that long anyways? There was communication to the outside so it's not as though the police weren't contacted within a timely manner and in fact people in hiding were texting information outwards! I think a whole separate investigation into why the response was incredibly slow is definitely needed. Its scary to think this is what extreme complacency does to national intelligence and police emergencies

5. Reading the alleged motive, it's one of the most complex and bizarre ideologies I've come across in a very long time.
I'm amazed that one guy was able to do all of that in the span of just some hours. An extremely disgusting event for a great nation and infuriating one.

That has been bothering me since the story exploded last night when the death toll soared. I just can't believe one guy did it all. Norway's the last place I would have ever expected terrorism like that...

Thats True...And I wonder if they can do 21 years per murder? In that case he would be in for life. And then to continue...
1. Thats american news sadly. Its an old story if its not in our country, and isnt going on for days.
2. If it was in a car, it would have been easy to just drive up. They dont have the extensive protection being they dont like alot of Military/Police presence apparently.
3. He probably brought it with him...and on the internet, you can get anything really. Illegal yes, but doesnt stop people. He could also have made his own, stole it out of a police car etc...
4. It takes tactics. They are arraving on boats, and thats not very fast. To call out SWAT and get them ready also takes time, ecspecially if they are far from a CP. They also didnt want to just boat anlong and then him kill them, explode etc...but as the killing went on they probably just said lets go.
5. He's insane. All I can say is I hope he gets help
