On this date in 1977...

#1 Postby StormingB81 » Thu Oct 20, 2011 6:48 am

A plane carrying Lynyrd Skynyrd Crashed killing lead singer Ronnie Van Zant, guitarist Steve Gaines, backup singer Cassie Gaines (Steve's sister) and road manager Dean Kilpatrick also the pilot and co-pilot. And still to this day one of the best bands!

One of my favorite songs!

I still remember that day. I was walking through the dining room where my step-dad was drinking coffee and he stopped me and told me the news. I was a senior in high school.
Looooong time ago - but sometimes it still feels like yesterday.

I didn't remember the day per se, but they were one of the many rock bands I was listening too back then. That's when rock really ruled!

What an awful tragedy for the fans and family, but what a legacy of great southern rock Lynyrd Skynyrd left!

If I had taken the job I had been offered by a friend of mine to be part of the stage crew for the band I probably would have been on that plane. My friend was and he did survive. I couldn't believe it when I heard about the crash. To this day I still think they are one of the best.
