Motorcycle Helmets

#1 Postby coriolis » Sat Sep 06, 2003 5:56 pm

A new law just took effect in Pennsylvania. Bikers are no longer required to wear helmets. I'm surprised that this passed, but the Bikers fought hard for this.

I'm still doing double takes seeing bikers w/o helmets.

What are the requirements in other states regarding helmets?

The law here in MS requires that they wear helmets, but children can ride in the back of pick-up trucks.

Not sure the law in Arizona, but there are plenty of bikers without helmuts.

Heck, even those biker girlies on the back are wearing only tattoos as taillights!

I usually see people with them on here in CA; so I assume the law is for people to wear them. (Thankfully! ;) )

In Florida bikers don't have to wear helmets. It's been this way for a few years now. It is totally beyond me how anyone would be willing to risk their life like that. I hate to think that if I were to get into an accident that I might kill someone because they were foolish enough not to wear a helmet. Not wearing one is like taunting death in the face. I try to understand why people do the things they do, and I just can't figure it out sometimes......

I don't believe they are required to wear helmets here, I see riders without them all the time... I just say if someone is stupid enough to endanger him/herself that way, then I guess they'll just have to deal with the consequences!

No helmet law here in SC but I choose to wear one anyway. Now...if they would just adopt that same policy to seat belts, I might just consider wearing mine!

Missouri requires helmets; if they had any sense, they'd require leather jackets, boots (acts as "armor" for skin when sliding...been there) and Gore-Tex overclothes for rainy wx, as well.

My preference is the 1/2 shell "police" model; most here use a full-head bucket with integral face shield.

LOL!!!

NJ requires helmets for motorcylce riders, and for children riding bikes until sometime in their teens.

I would think that they should be required to pay a higher premium since the risk of injury or death is even greater. Marty had said that if NJ did that (which they won't), he'd still wear his (and I would for that matter also).

No helmets in Az.......I *use* to ride a motorcycle without a helmet, sold the bike after a near death experience and seeing one of my best friends die a SLOW death from massive head injuries when he hit an elk.

Don't get me started on riding in the back of pickups, out west here, especially on the *rez*....the only mode of transporation my Apache brothers have IS a pickup....

Riders under the age of 18 are required to wear a helmet here in MN, After you turn 18, there no longer is any requirement to wear one.
