When to ^ BUMP^ threads

#1 Postby ColdFront77 » Sat Sep 20, 2003 7:20 pm

How much time should elapse before we should bump threads?

There have been some posts bumped up only 10 to 20 minutes after the thread is created; before there is even a chance for anyone to get to them. I figure it would make sense to wait to see if someone after reading the topic has something to say about it after more than twenty minutes.

When a thread gets 'buried' to the bottom of page one or onto page two even after a half hour to get quicker attention to it, it is brought back up by "bumping."

A note to those that feel their topics are not getting attention. As GalvestonDuck mentioned, don't feel that your posts are being ignored, check the number of views in your threads (and others) and more often than not members are at least scanning (if not reading completely) your posts and they have nothing to add.

Thank you Stephanie and Linda. :)

Linda, I was pretty sure is was GalvestonDuck in the last day or two; I appreciate the correction if it was in fact Ticka. I did a search a few hours ago and couldn't find the post I remember reading.

I think that sometimes people want to bump a thread because of the high activity and a post can get lost easily in the fray.

Must have been Ticka, unless I did it while I was half-asleep. :) I know both Ticka and I responded to John (Josephine) waaaaay back when he first joined because he thought his posts were being ignored since they kept sliding down to the bottom in the midst of all the postings, but I believe we both pointed out to him that they were being viewed and read.

Josephine - can I make a suggestion - at the Tropic level - look at your post and see how many views it has....I myself am I work and can't reply to all post - I can view much quicker. All your posts are appreciated. So look at it another way - instead of replies - check how many times someone has looked at your post.

Found it Tom. ;) Glavduck posted way after ticka. :)

Garrett, I understand that and think it should be done, that is why I started this thread to discuss the issue.

I have seen two [or three] threads in particular that were bumped (the third being a joke, with a "lol" :) ) after only ten to twenty minutes have passed.

It would make more sense if threads are given more time for a response before they are bumped up. I would hope that at least a hanful of us will see it between ten minutes and two hours to get it back to the top for continued responses.

Thank you Linda, I enjoy searching the archives here and couldn't come across the Ticka's post. I sure do remember reading it, knew one of two people brought this up and just couldn't find it over the several minute period of time I searched. :)

I still remember reading a post (by GalvestonDuck) about threads getting views, means your messages are getting read (or at least scanned) recently. Oh well. :)

So she (GalvestonDuck) said it originally, being before Ticka's in the same thread. :)
