Drunken Drivers To Have Embarrassing Bumper Stickers

#1 Postby bfez1 » Thu Sep 25, 2003 8:56 am

PENSACOLA, Fla. -- "How's my driving? The judge wants to know." SURVEY
"How's my driving? The judge wants to know." Some convicted drunken drivers in the Pensacola, Fla., area are being ordered to put those bumper stickers on their cars. Are the stickers a good idea?
Yes
No

Some convicted drunken drivers in the Pensacola area are being ordered to put those bumper stickers on their cars.

The stickers include a phone number for concerned people to call. Judge William White says he hopes the bumper stickers will act as a deterrent. But lawyer Richard Alvoid disagrees. He says punishment should be enough rather than shaming people.

But Judge White says embarrassment "comes with the turf when you're committing crimes."

Nope.

What if a husband and wife share a car? *shakes head* Just a bad idea all around.

You have a point there Opera! I would feel awfully sorry for kids of those parents too. I know the crime should be paid for in full.. dont get me wrong, but other people in the family could get pulled into the middle of the "shame" as well. JMHO.

What about the victims of those drunk drivers who have been put into the deepest sleep there is? Why should they not be shamed?

On another note... there are plenty of "practical jokers" on our Highways who would dial the number and report the convicted drunk driver falsely. So, another solution to shame would be more appropriate.

I think the bumper sticker is a bad idea for the reasons listed above. I have a better idea: Get it tattooed on their forehead instead!
