Scariest movie?
OK, since Halloween is coming up (whether you celebrate or not), you know cable channels are going to be ripe with horror movies and thrillers. Of course, Michael Myers will pop up a few times since it's "Halloween." That's a given. Maybe "The Omen," "Friday The 13th," and a few Freddy flicks will also air.
I've seen all those and then some. The problem is that I don't get scared. Serial killer flicks, stalker movies, and other psychological crime thrillers are more suspenseful and sometimes a bit more frightening...but not really. I'm not gonna say I'm brave, but I'm fearless. There's a big difference. I have yet to feel fear when I watch a movie. Hurricane, yes, Movie, no.
I've seen "The Exorcist," "The Changeling," and "The Gates Of Hell" which were all recommended as "the scariest movie in the world." Blah. "Blair Witch Project?" Nope. "The Ring" came close with all that monochromatic freaky imagery like some kind of German expressionism film. But there were some kids sitting behind my friends and I (and the theater was crowded) and they kept giggling during the non-suspenseful moments. It deteriorated the mood of the film. Hitchcock is good, but not scary. Out of Freddy, Jason, and Michael, I like Mike best simply because the music adds something to it. Still not scary. A TV-movie called "The Thirteenth Floor" with Michele Greene (Abby on "L.A. Law") was eery in a Victorian haunted house kind of way and that's the closest any flick has come to frightening me.
I've determined that vampires don't frighten me at all because they're just not believable. Witches - same. Demon possession - yawn, I'm Catholic. How many times can you watch a priest shaking a crucifix towards the darkness and chanting "In the name of God, I order you back to hell!"
I want to see a movie that I can watch alone, in the dark, and get totally frightened to the point that I'll need to turn on the light and call my best friend and stay up all night because I'm afraid to close my eyes. Or at least one that makes me want to sleep with the lights on.
Any suggestions?

I should be so lucky Shawn!!! I'm scared silly at all these movies. Thought this would be a different type of thread.....LOL
I was going to say the scariest movie ever, IMHO, is Psycho. Still after all these years. I didn't sleep for 2 nights after braving it years ago. Now when I see it on the schedule, I flip so fast past it! Second would be the Exorcist. Guess I'm more in favor of suspense than blood and gore. Still, scary movies are really not my thing anyway!

I'm currently watching something on tv that's scarier than any horror movie.....and it happens every October....just like Halloween...
MY ATLANTA BRAVES CHOKING IN THE PLAYOFFS
:o
Seriously, the scariest horror movie I remember seeing was Night of the Living Dead. I've never been fond of graveyards to begin with, and after seeing that movie, I give all graves a wide berth at night

LMAO!
I'm not much into horror movies. We watch TV as a family, and wouldn't want our kids to get scared to death.
Plus, they tend to be VERY graphic. Blood, guts, and the like.
As a kid, the scariest movie/show that I remember was when "The Abominable Snowman" would peek over that mountain in Rudolf the Rednosed Reindeer. hehe

Ditto j, you can't beat Hitchcock movies!
How about "The Nanny"? Man, that was one eeary, scary movie. The poor unsuspecting aunt.....doomed....wait why was the nanny even on duty if an aunt was there? LOL I never looked at a bathtub in quite the same way again.....much the same way you looked at a shower stall after watching Psycho or a rocking chair.......or a huge flock of birds....that's what Hitchcock was best at - taking ordinary things and scaring the you know what out of us.
Okay, it's bright and sunny out here in Cincy and I'm shaking in this chair!!! Where's a Disney movie image when you need one? LOL

A couple of off beat, TV movies that scared me were the Buried Alive ones. I and II. Ewwww, creepy!!!!
And how about the campy Stepford Wives? Twilight Zone met the TV movie of the week back then.....dee dee dee......not scary or gory.....just out there for me. Made you look at sleepy, quaint little towns a little differently after that. Similar to that Children of the Corn movie....that was its title wasn't it? Had Betty Davis in it I think. Something to be said for some of these TV movies....guess I'm showing my age, huh? I remember when it was a big deal when a new one would come out!
