Please help me with my memory......

#1 Postby Guest » Fri Oct 10, 2003 8:41 pm

Today at work we were discussing songs and somehow someone mentioned a song they remembered from the 60's or 70's - with a title with either "Georgie Girl" or those were the lyrics - can someone help me out here. Its been driving me nuts all day - I tried searching the internet but didn't have much luck.

So if any of you music lookers and wise people (as in over 30) remember this song - let me know if its for real - or just something we are dreaming up - would like to know who sang it too.

Patricia

Have a great weekend!!

"Georgy Girl"...theme song for a movie of the same name, about 1967.

I forget the artists, but they were a more "Hootenanny"-style ensemble (i.e., three voices, guitar and bass only accompaniment)...comparable to a British "Peter, Paul and Mary".

Maybe it was Petula Clark who sang it? Hate when my memory gives out like this!!!!

Hey there Georgie girl, forgetten words,
Or is it the clothes you wear? You're always window shopping but never stopping for love...

Sorry, I was really young when that song was out; but a wonderful friend of mine (now and then) name is Georgine

Okay, tons of stuff on Georgie Girl, some of it having to do with a new documentary out there with this title. Confusing!!! I did find the lyrics for this song.....at this website:
http://members.aol.com/lunariviera3/georgie.html

Georgie Girl

Hey there! Georgie girl
Swinging down the street so fancy free,
Nobody you meet could ever see
the loneliness there inside you.

Hey there! Georgie girl
Why do all the boys just pass you by?
Could it be you just don't try, or is it the clothes you wear?
You're always window shopping but never stopping to buy.
So shed those dowdy feathers and fly a little bit.

Hey there! Georgie girl
There's another Georgie deep inside
Bring out all the love you hide and
oh, what a change there'd be,
The world would see a new Georgie girl.

Hey there! Georgie girl
Dreaming of the someone you could be
Life is a reality, you can't always run away.
Don't be so scared of changing and rearranging yourself.
It's time for jumping down from the shelf a little bit.

Excerpt of lyrics from the song Georgie Girl by the Seekers.

PS - here's more, the band was indeed called the Seekers!!! Mystery solved!!!!

http://www.amiright.com/misheard/artist/seekers.shtml

PSS - what's weird is Georgie is spelled both ways - with an ie and a y. Strange......odd that I mixed up Downtown with this song too!!! Memory warp time....

Okay I'm done for the night....

Wow, that brings back the memories!

I'm not sure I like the concept of getting old.

I think the reason your memory fades as you get older......is so you can forget how old you are :D

Pro-Storm - we needed you last night!!!

Patricia - still humming Georgie Girl?

I hate getting old......grrrrrr.....I'm fighting it big time. Oh big time.

Mary

PS - Pro-storm I just voted online for a local music awards show coming up. Anywho, had to choose a field for my age. Didn't like that one bit! I was in the 46-55 category. While my husband, being the baby he is at 45 (yes I robbed the cradle by 3 years!!! LOL), was in the 36-45 category. I had to hear about that for a while......

Hey Patricia!!! Wonder how many of us are now humming Georgie Girl today? I can't get it out of my head now!!!!

You can buy songs at just $.99 at the Apple Store online, for anyone interested. You can then burn you own CD if your computer does that. So theoretically if anyone wanted to buy some of these oldies......you could. It's tempting.....but I'll just stick to the version in my head for now.

LOL - yeah now I got that tune in my head. I read about it - was a movie.

Got the tune and words now - thanks to everyone for helping me remember - sometimes I miss the old songs like that - can't say that for many songs today.

That was one of those great "one-hit wonders" that always gets stuck in your head. Two of my faves (and I'm not afraid to admit them) are "The Night The Lights Went Out In Georgia" by Vickie Lawrence and "They Don't Know" by Tracy Ullman. The latter isn't really a one-hit wonder since she had more hit in her homeland England.

One hit wonders!!! I loved "Play that Funky Music" by Wild Cherry. I knew all the guys personally. (It's a 70's thing) They lived in the Weirton, WV and Steubenvile, Ohio area. Those are the only celebs I've ever known. Pretty cool though
