Canadian TV Gets Free Daily Dose of 'Jon Stewart'

#1 Postby TexasStooge » Wed Oct 22, 2003 1:32 pm

TORONTO (Hollywood Reporter) - "The Daily Show With Jon Stewart" has landed on free, over-the-air TV in Canada.

CTV Inc. said Tuesday that it has bought the Comedy Central satirical news show from MTV Networks International for its national conventional TV network.

The Canadian network also renewed "The Daily Show" for its comedy specialty channel the Comedy Network, where the show has aired since 1999.

CTV also acquired "Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica," a 10-episode half-hour reality series that debuted on MTV in August.

No slot on CTV's primetime schedule has yet been found for "Newlyweds." "The Daily Show" will bow at midnight Nov. 3 on CTV, with the Comedy Network continuing to air the show at 11 p.m. Monday-Thursday.

CTV in the past year has bought two other reality series from MTV: "The Osbournes" and Ashton Kutcher's "Punk'd."
