Project may cut delays on I-35

An Interstate 35W entrance ramp regularly used by people who work in downtown Fort Worth may soon be closed to make room for an extra freeway lane.

The on-ramp to northbound I-35W from Weatherford Street -- a left-lane entrance where 17 accidents occurred in three years -- could be closed as early as the first week of November, Texas Department of Transportation officials said.

Closing the ramp would create room for workers to restripe that two-lane portion of I-35W to make it three lanes and end a bottleneck that can back up traffic for more than a mile, officials said.

Regional planners praised state officials for looking at innovative ways of maximizing existing freeway space.

Glad to see they are taking steps to improve the traffic flow.
