HOT DAWG!
FINALLY....DSL comes to the mountain
Well, it's not true DSL......our server is testing a new Dial Up DSL and I was picked to try it out before it goes online! It's a WHOLE heck of a LOT faster than plain ol' dial up. We have the true DSL service up here but I'll be danged if I'm gonna pay $59.99 a MONTH

Great Dennis. I had DSL in Hyannis. Moved to rural eastern NY and had to revert back to dialup. Now I am 12 miles south of Buffalo and guess what -- no cable, no DSL. But my ISP has a service that will speed up a dialup connection. I also have old wiring which slows my connection doooowwwwwnnnnnnnnnnnnn bbbbbbbbbbbiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiggggggggggggggggg time. My usual connection speed is 26.4Kbps. Verizon (our phone company) responded to complaints, "Our rates are for providing a dial tone. We are not responsible for your dial up speed." Let me tell you, that made be very happy...........not!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Raodrunner. Beep! Beep!
It runs me between 40 and 50$ a month and I'd pay up to 75$ a month happily for the access rates. It all depends on what you do on the internet/how many people you have using it in one household (we have a router set up to 3 computers- in the summer we have 4 when we have a lot of house guests) My husband and I game online and I develop websites in my spare time.... we need all the speed we can get- and sometimes between us we drag that cable line down to the equivilant of 56K. We wouldn't be able to load anything on a slower line between the two of us.
Then again- It's a shared hobby and we live far below our means just so we can spend more money on our hobbies *grins* Lifes too short to not go as fast as you can!
(My connection fee was something like 120$ 3 years ago- but I got it for only 50$ during a special... lots of specials.)

We too live below our means, we're trying desperatly to save enough money for us to retire very soon (I retired once, imagine being 45 years old and retired "WOOOHOOOO!", more time for GOLF!).....but I'll be dam*** if I'll pay 59.99$ for INTERNET service for Crips sake. Yes....we depend a LOT on the internet for our business, as 99% of y'all know, we do environmental impact and enviro. assessments for the federal and state governments, so we need access to various websites to file our studies etc but even still, "59.99$" for internet service......"I THINK NOT!"

we have DSL and love it, yes its a little more, but my husband plays all those shot it up games and wants it fast. it wasnt much more than cable modem, but we got rid of cable and went with dish so we had to change. so azsnowman is this going to be free? that pretty good if it is. i think we only pay 39 or 49 a month, i could be wrong
