MAN ADMITS WATER POISONING THREAT

Man admits water-poisoning threat

A 43-year-old man today pleaded guilty to threatening to poison Melbourne's water supplies with cyanide.

The County Court was told that the threat made by Cezary Robert Konarzewski was connected with his desire to be punished for a road accident in which a woman was killed.

But, said Crown prosecutor Peter McDermott, Konarzewski had been cleared of any blame or wrongdoing in connection with the accident in 2000 on the West Gate Bridge.

Mr McDermott said Konarzewski suffered from an abiding guilt complex and believed he should have been punished.

Konarzewski, of Tiber Close, Werribee, an unemployed auto electrician admitted sending an email to the National Security website on January 22 this year, threatening to release mining-grade cyanide into three of Melbourne's biggest water reservoirs.

The pre-sentencing hearing before Judge Joe Gullaci, is continuing.
