IMHO, the term "Hero" is overused in our vocabulary today. Ever since 9/11 every firefighter, police officer, soldier, marine, airman, or any other serviceman/woman have been labeled a "Hero"
Where do we define what a real hero is outside of this? The man down the street that stops a mugging from happening? Is he/she a hero? the soldier that is sitting in Irag manning the radios who never sees the enemy, is he/she a real hero? Was I a "Hero" because I served my country but did not see "action"? No, I was not a hero. I just want to express my opinion here that not all of the above mentioned people in those occupations are "heros" But they are all being labeled it because of a small group of them.
The term is being really diluted. I personally voted that Jessica is a brave young woman; but a victim of circumstances and not a hero
You are welcome to barrage me with ridicule, but that is what is so great about here. And I can handle it, can you?

I hate to once again sound like a promoter lol.. But if you go to my website http://www.newsinghsvcc.00go.com and click on the page titled "The New Wing" you can see my opinion about the story.
Also I have a poll question on the front page about the Lynch book. Just click the link under where it says poll question

I never said that she didn't deserve recognition for being a POW, IMO, POWs seem to get lost in the flow. My hat is off to her for surviving that ordeal, God knows that it wasn't pleasant, and I for one would never, ever want to be in those shoes, or wish that cruelty on anyone.
Just for info:
Hero defined by The new Lexicon Webster's Dictionary or the english language 1989 edition.
he-ro: a man of exceptional quality who wins admiration by noble deeds, esp. deeds of courage
replace "man" with "woman" as needed

To me, that definition describes anyone that signs up to serve our country. It's a courageous act.

OMG, is there any doubt. All of these young men and women who are over there defending our freedom are heros. Come on people. Wake up!!! They may get caught and endure extreme pain and torture. They may come back and have exciting stories. They may come back and be given honors at a cemetery. These people are my heroes!!!!
They have defended me in mind and spirit and sometimes with their life. They have defended my right to tell you this. YOU WANT FREEDOM - THEY PAY FOR IT!!!!
My nephew is a Marine helicopter pilot who was one of the first into Afganastan after 9/11. Don't question my dedication and devotion to our American Heros.
Jessica, whether she fired even one shot out of that jammed weapon indured more for my freedom than I can ever thank her for. Put yourself in her place - put your daughter or your wife in her place. Is she a hero???? YES, YOU'RE DAMN RIGHT SHE'S A HERO
Thanks Jessica
