FYI Countdown for “biggest operation yet inside America”.

Al Qaeda: Countdown for “biggest operation yet inside America”.

Monday, November 24, Al Qaeda marked Eid al Fitr, the festival closing the Muslim festival of Ramadan, with a dramatic warning. DEBKAfile’s counter-terror sources reports that a message published over al Qaeda’s electronic channels and websites declared that the countdown has begun for the biggest operation ever carried out in the United States. “The big blow will fall very shortly. It will consist of a series of surprise attacks that will cut America off from communication with its armies in Muslim countries.” The reference is clearly to US troops in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The largest number, around 115,000 soldiers, is present in Iraq.

Muslims living in the United States are urged to “take advantage of the short time left” to escape the country and harm’s way.

Some of the messages say that a new Osama bin Laden videotape will soon be out. It will also carry statements by al Qaeda members who executed the last suicide attacks in Saudi Arabia and adherents who died in clashes with Saudi security. They will be shown describing how they were prepared for action. Bin Laden will intersperse these cuts with comments explaining the selection of Saudi targets.

DEBKAfile’s counter-terror sources report that some of the new messages are signed by Abu Assam al Yamani, who also threatens to murder Abdul Rahman Rashid, editor of the Saudi London-based paper Sharq al Awsat. Al Yamani says the al Qaeda passed sentence of death against the editor because he not only met President George W. Bush in the British capital last week but interviewed him and appeared with the president in a joint photo.

Very scary...but I'm sure possible. Fortunately, the other posible "attack dates" have come and gone, but we still need to keep our guard up, especially our troops!

In order to cut-off communications to the soldiers in Muslim would take an army the size of the former Soviet Union. Unless they have gotten the capability to destroy satellite communications it just isn't going to happen....

However, any time and any place they could attack, and even if it is small, losing one American family is bad enough!!! I pray this warning comes and goes like the rest!! Does anyone think that maybe Al Qaeda puts out so many threats as a diversion?? I just hope we have a safe holiday, and beyond!!!

Well it says in the first paragraph
carried out in the United States
It's the cut off part that is confusing. Maybe they are implying that we will be too busy with multiple attacks here for word to get through from Iraq. It could also imply that our power grid will be out for one reason or another. We have some heavy travel and gathering over the next week. Packed malls and airports.

Storm.. Yes I do think they put some threats out for diversion.. before 9/11 the state department had issued terror warnings for Americans abroad and when I read about the days leading up to 9/11 it seems most intelligence pointed to an attack overseas.

You've got that hit on the head, azsnowman! I think that the terror groups have nothing else better to do but to strike fear into Americans. :x

I am not going to spoil the holiday season worrying about it, but it is still good to be on guard for these idiots!

Yeah, every terror alert elevation(yellow-to-orange) and terror warning has been followed by nothing..........I think it's safe to almost guarantee that there will not be a terror attack on North America. However, I am very concerned, given the recent warnings, that London or other British targets may come under attack, especially given the Turkey attacks.
Tony Blair, my favourite politician, is certainly in my thoughts tonight.

That's the problem Jason - complacency. There's no way that we can guarantee no attacks. We can't let the warnings interfere with our lives, but we must ALWAYS remain vigilante.

That is a brave assertion. I most certainly hope you are right... but I doubt it.

I just heard on one of the cable news stations (don't know which one, I was channel surfing to get the headlines) that all Muslims in America are urged to leave within the next couple of days. The report stated that the "source" says all preliminary plans have been completed and that this attack will be so much bigger than 9/11.

I have a feeling we will see the alert raised - there's been too much in the news recently about chemical and nuclear facilities, the Northeast, Washington, DC, and other major cities including Miami. Don't forget that millions of Americans are feeling comfortable traveling again and this is the biggest travel holiday since before 9/11.

I don't see anything that the government would raise the alert. They maybe at a higher level internally but won't play the card. Not with the holiday travel and spending about to kick off. With all the positive economic numbers a terrorist attack would kill that in a hurry. A raise to orange would not have much effect anyways. Most people don't know what level we are at now or much less care.

I had a thought...Al Qaida has been "crying wolf" so often that we have become complacent in our "threat levels" assessments, and that's when they WILL strike...when we "think" we are "safe".

Right out of the Al Qaida playbook, ladies and gentz. :larrow:
