Soldiers from the 1st Cavalry Division practice first aid Monday. The division's 17,000 soldiers are among the 60,000 troops who have received orders to ship out to the Persian Gulf, defense officials said Monday.

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- With the United States beefing up its military might around Iraq, another 60,000 troops -- including all 17,000 soldiers of the U.S. Army's 1st Cavalry Division -- received orders to deploy to the Persian Gulf region, military officials said Monday.

It doesn't look like President Bush is backing down. According to the full story, the deployment of the 101ST Airmobile Division was a "just in case" for the Turkey vote. Having the 101st assume the job intended for a heavy armor force is definitely a higher risk strategy.

Ya know, I can't keep from feeling like we're gonna be left *with our pants down* so to speak, all these troops being deployed is gonna leave us, here at home, defense less, no one's home! With this last snow storm we just had, the mayor declared Pinetop/Lakeside a disaster area but the National Guard Unit that's normally deployed in such cases, is gone! What about North Korea, God forbid if they were to launch a nuclear attack on the west coast, then what????

That's correct Marshall; this Administration has a game plan and they're not going to screach to a hault just because Turkey is causing a nuisance, and that's all it is. Nothing's going to prevent that many troops from moving in when necessary; remember we have an Air Force. The President's advisors are seasoned pros who look at many scenarios and have a variety of plans; they know very well what they're doing.

We are far from defenseless. While 300,000 is a very significant number, we have a lot of men and women under arms. Currently we have 5 carrier battle groups out of 12 deplayed to the region. A sixth, the Nimitz, is on the way but will relieve one of the carriers already there.
