Argh!!! *No need to read... I am just venting!!* :)

#1 Postby wx247 » Tue Dec 16, 2003 7:01 pm

I logged on to my school's website to check on my grade for my Educational Psychology class. When I checked my grades I noticed that I received 20 out of 100 participation points. I was fit to be tied!!! Apparently, we had to log onto the discussion board three or four times a week to read and respond. I checked it once or twice a week and so my participation grade suffers. :grrr: :grrr: :grrr: I completed every assignment on time, scored a 92 on my midterm, a 90 on my final, and still managed to get a C in the class. I am so frustrated now it is not even funny. There goes the scholarship. :( :(

Sorry... I don't mean to burden ya'll down with this. You have more important problems than this, but I just felt I was "screwed" for lack of a better word.

I would figure you would bloew the top off of any message board. It doesn't seem fair that they didn't explain where the Participation points came from :-(

That's TOTAL B.S. Garrett! I'd be torqued off too! That's the problem with the world today, everyone's TOO dam busy to explain anything, to anyone anymore! Hey don't worry venting, we're all friends here and that's what friends are for!

That so isn't fair! Can you get the teacher to fix it?

Not quite that easy. I already asked him about it and he said no... what is done is done. Now I have to get an A in every other class to keep my GPA where I can keep my scholarship. That means an A in: Teacher Ed. I, History of Theatre I: Beginning to Elizabethan Era, Interpersonal Communication, Music Appreciation, Advanced Public Speaking, and Theatre Practicum.

That's crazy. :o If he diden't explain it right, and he isn't adjusting your grade because of something that is HIS fault; that isn't cool in my eyes...

He claims to have explained it clearly enough so I will just have to deal with it.

I guess so, that is unless you have or can get witnesses. But if you don't want to fight him then I understand. :)

Oh man bro, that is AWFUL!!! Obviously SOMETHING wasn't explained well enough!!! All anyone should have to do is look at the rest of what you did in that class to realize how well you did, that is BS!!! Give me his street address, I have some eggs......

Garrett - that's terrible this has happened to you. I'm sure you'll learn from this very valuable lesson but in the meantime, it just sucks doesn't it? Let me share some advice I've always given my kids as they've gone thru school (they're in 8th/11th Grades now): always tell the teacher the truth. They've missed important info, didn't pay attention when they should have, etc. I'd say over 60% of the time they admitted they made a mistake the teacher has given them another chance. You see I didn't have the guts to speak up to teachers, politely that is, and so I pretended like I didn't care or so what if I screwed up......I paid the price, got terrible grades in some subjects. You have nothing to lose by contacting the teacher. Don't know what can be done to bring up your grade, other than extra credit. But it sure wouldn't hurt to ask. Just my 2 cents worth.

Thanks Mary and everyone else. I contacted him this evening before I posted this message online and asked what the reasoning was. He explained it and broke it down to me in very complex fashion. After explaining three times I understood, but he said that he would not change it. Guess what the class average is? 35 points... out of 100!!! Something is definitely wrong. I just don't think there is anything I can do. I may talk to my advisor tomorrow.

ouch Garrett.... that sucks! I had a e-based class on WebCT and D2L....and they were a pain....however, I communicated with the class and received my participation points. Not participating shouldn't affect your final grade that much! Unless it was over 30% of you grade.

I would talk to your advisor for sure!!! I always say that if you don't get the results you want from one person, go to the next person up!! Something IS wrong if the class average is 35 out of 100!!! :grrr:

Yeah... Shannon. That is what irks me the most. This wasn't an internet class, yet he required us to use the internet. Obviously that isn't a problem for me -- it is the lack of instruction, which hasn't just hurt me (if it did then I would take the blame and move on), but the whole class.
