I second Chad's na. Bad angle and poor lighting. Shadows can play tricks on you.

I would say it is a person or ghost. I don't think it's just shadows.

Well, I just blew up the photo and got a good, hard look at it...shadows are consistent, it IS a robed figure (actually, caped with a hood), and the too-white face IS indeterminate.

Also, it DID open what is now a fire door, but was once a large, wooden door opening into the bailey (inner grounds) of the castle.

Verdict? Whatever it is, it's "real".

I've always believed in ghosts and the "supernatural". If Bill analyzed the picture and found that it isn't superimposed, then I'm inclined to think that the picture is real and probably a ghost. That's pretty wild!

I do, and it looks very real to me ... England is notorious for such hauntings and IMO, this looks very genuine ... I took liberty to do a negative (though I wish I had infrared to pick up a heat source) but in the negative image, I cannot pick up ANY evidence of the figure having legs or feet) and well as doing other various photo investigation.

On closer inspection, the cape/robe and (look closely) a hint of neck "ruff" is consistent with Tudor-era fashion, particularly for a lady of the Henry VIII/early Elizabethan period.

Strange stuff, this.
