So, how many of you made a New Years Resolution to loose weight this coming year? After a LONG winter like we have....7 months, I usually start back on the Atkins around April....my body NEEDS the carbs in the cold seeings how we work outside at elevations that would make a mountain man die "LOL!" 10,000-10,300', especially this spring after the spring thaw, we have an environmental impact study to do around Mt. Ord, the back side of Mt. Baldy......we're doing an "Alpine Line" study, basicly, studying the trees at the Alpine elevations, Limber Pines etc......with the huge increase in Az populations, we are loosing an alarming number of the 200-400 year old Limber Pines above the elevations of 10,600' +

Well I'm back on my diet. Like you Dennis, I need the carbs, but b/c they're the foods I can eat now - potatoes, pasta, white bread. What I mostly need to do is eat light again, stop after dinner, no evening snacking and get back on that treadmill everyday. Then I'll be on my way. It's hard to do that over the holidays! Now last year I ate like that thru-out December and by this time, I was feeling healthy. Somehow that plan didn't happen this holiday season.
Oh well.

Well...I'm back on one again...trying to finish off those last 18 lbs that I had for a goal a year ago. I'm down 11 from when we moved here, but am always trying to get that waist size down a couple.
My secret has always been portion control...no seconds...and, like Mary, no snacks.
We'll see how it goes. Good luck to those of you on the same path!

Well, I'm living proof smaller portions works. Let's see, let me dig out a picture from those brief size 4 days!!! Yes that was back in 99, after my surgeries. I was petrified to eat many foods, won't go into details, but let's just say I couldn't digest what I used to eat (whole wheat products, fresh fruit). So I began using the small tablespoon, instead of the large serving spoons for our stainless set. My plate looked pretty bare but it worked! I ate enough to get by, and felt really good. I bought a few size 4's (going from a size 12 previously), stupid me. I finally settled on 6's. Wore that size for 2 years. Over a year ago I began eating a little more and now I'm up to an 8. In my closet last year I had 4's, 6's, 8's, and 12's! I finally decided I will never let myself get up 12's again, gave them away. Shook my head at the 4's and 6's! They went too. If I could just loose 5 pounds, then these 8's would feel great - you know how it is, you pop the button while watching TV.....LOL But honestly, smaller portions, exercise and drinking lots of water really works!
