Dreams

#1 Postby Stephanie » Wed Jan 07, 2004 7:56 pm

Do any of you have recurring dreams?

Three main themes stick out for me;

1) Back at school and I'm ready to graduate, but I realize that I didn't attend one of my classes all semester.

2) Being near a tornado - never really in one, but I see it in the distance and it's headed my way.

3) Traveling in an area that's supposedly familiar to me (like my old neighborhood, etc.), but it really doesn't look like it at all.

I have recurring dreams that I'm moving my family back to Massachusetts... then as I'm unpacking I realize I never told anybody that I was moving...

My other recurring dreams involve Catherine Zeta-Jones and handcuffs, so I'll keep those to myself... :grrr:

Yeah Steph, you and every other weathergeek on this board!

Now even my 11 y/o daughter dreams about tornadoes, and she's even going to build one for the Science Fair this year. I'll have to do my best to refrain from "helping" too much.

I have two...both of me being fired on (and hit) from behind. And, Debi knows when they are "in progress", since she swears I'm speaking in some foreign language before awakening abruptly.

I have to take her word on that.

I've had the recurring tornado dream also. Mine always seem to involve the tornado coming closer and me having to run inside. One time, in the dream, I was watching with a group of people. We ran into the building as the tornado got closer. But then it hit the building and I just remember debris falling all around me as I hit the ground and covered my head.

When I was younger, I used to have recurring dreams (if you want to call them that) of a black panther leaping on me. In the dream, just as in real life, I'm in bed when it attacks and I wake up suddenly. And in real life, it happens just at that point where I'm reaching a state of sleep (you know, where you're still sort of aware of what's around you, but you're almost gone). One time, I fell out of bed when the dream shocked me awake.

Yup, sure do Stephanie!

1. High School setting - arriving in class only to discover there's a big test that I didn't study for at all. Panicking knowing I will flunk.

2. A shopping center or mall. With steep steps. I've had this dream since I was a kid. But I haven't had this dream in a long, long time.

3. I'm back working at my old job - a doctor's office. We had a 9 line phone, which never stopped. I'm the only receptionist manning the phones, patients are lined up at the window for appts. Doctor's are calling asking for my assistance. It's a hectic situation to say the least! I resigned from this job in 1985 but I still occasionally have this dream! Crazy huh? Among my duties were to call area hospitals for xrays for patients, etc. And when I worked there I had about 50 phone numbers memorized. Awhile back I dialed one of those Jewish Hospital radiology numbers and when I woke up, I think it was still correct. After all these years!!! I think my 50 hour weeks took a toll on me.....LOL I did work there for 10 years.

I know back in 8th grade after the May 9th dance in 2003 I had a dream almost every night after the dance for about a week trying to replay what went wrong, and why I should of asked her to dance after my friend danced with her. Now I look back, I just overreacted, and with that wasted time and missed the only chance I had(or will ever have).

Other then that, probably some weather dreams and all that good stuff.

Thats about it. :)

I just remembered one more -- I'm in my apartment (at least, it's the one I'm living in in my dream because it's never actually my real life place). My mom is there. She's going with me either down into the basement, up into the attic, or into the closet. Beyond that, there are secret passageways and tunnels that I also have to go through. Along the way, I'm shuffling through files and boxes and gosh knows what else.

Someone explained to me that it's either my deceased mom or my subconscience telling me there's something left undone.

I think that all dreams are a result of something your subconcious is trying to hash out or resolve for you.

The school dream I've heard and read has to do with feeling unprepared or a lack of confidence. The tornado dream has to do with stress, anxiety and feeling overwhelmed.

I hardly ever dream but some strange stuff has been going on lately. The last 3 nites I have awakened at 1:33 am following a large fireball. No source, no result, just a very large fireball like I was near by.

This morning out of the clear blue I blurt out a verse from a song I haven't heard in 20 years. "Bang bang Maxwell's silver hammer Came down upon her head bang bang Maxwell's silver hammer Made sure that she was dead." Where did that come from and where is it going?

Next I get in my suv to go to work, as I start to back out of the garage the radio is playing a song from the 80's. So I say out loud that isn't that strange because I was just thinking about it and I have it on one of the 6 cd's in my player. Now for some reason the radio switches to cd player and the changer pick a new cd to play and it's the same song that was on the radio.

Don't know where all this is going but it is an interesting ride along with other stuff that has happened over the past week.

Nope only the fireball is a dream. It's like a 10 second video clip but I am there watching it live it seems. The rest is all in real time.

For many years...back in the 60's, I used to have a dream where the day July 10, 1976, popped up. As that day approached (right after the big independence celebration on July 4th that year, my family and I woke up that day and went about our business...waiting for whatever was supposed to happen, to happen. The day came and went...and then so did the dream. Apparently without incident.

After returning from Vietnam I would have recurring dreams about not being able to come home. Two weeks before I was scheduled to return, I got orders from our CO that I couldn't leave. That was just before Christmas 1970. I got so upset that I wrote my Congressman (none of the other people in my company were being required to stay.) Lo and behold, whether Congressman John B. Anderson was a factor or not, I was home for Christmas eve. The intensity of that fear and anger and frustration kept me dreaming about that for years...even now sometimes.

Also had a recurring dream about my mom after I lost her in 1972. She was there, but not saying a thing. Haven't had that for a long time.

My wife, on the other hand, has had a dream she discovered she was topless at the mall while shopping. That dream has been ongoing with her for 35 years.

...at least I think it was a dream.

My recurring dreams are like flashbacks to all the things that have happened in my life.. So I guess those would be nightmares..

A friend of mine died 5 years ago this month, and I watched my house get destroyed in a 1998 tornado.. All sad stuff :(

It is pretty interesting the various themes that each of you have had with your recurring dreams.
