19 Days!!!! He's coming home!!!
Yes, the countdown is on in my family - my nephew Kristopher, a Sgt. with the 101st Airborne D., sent us all an email. He said see ya all in 19 days......that's as firm a date as we can get right now. I am crying as I type this! Just wanted to share the good news. He's been there almost a year. Oh it will be so good to get him home again - on US soil!!!
Just wanted to share the good news with MY STORM2K FAMILY - sorry for the all-caps, but I was shouting!!! LOL
19 DAYS!!!

Furry, Johnathan, firefighter, daylilydawn, Tom, Stephanie and Eric - thank you all so much. I meant to thank everyone here at Storm2K for helping me thru this past year. We have been so worried for Kris and all our brave soldiers over there......you just don't know how your heart sinks when you read of another soldier's death. And then you wait.....it's the worst feeling in the world. You're so sad that someone lost a son/brother/dad/husband/nephew or daughter/sister/wife/mother/wife/niece but you're so relieved your relative is okay.
And speaking of xmas, my niece and Kris plan on celebrating xmas in February. She didn't even open any presents we gave them, they're all still wrapped. I have ingredients on hand for one more care package for him - caramel popcorn and spritz xmas cookies - as soon as it's confirmed that he's left Kuwait the baking blitz begins! That will the happiest package I've ever sent!!!
Well, thanks again you all - you are the very best message board family anyone could ever hope to find. And I found you! Thanks once again Eric for referring me to Storm2K!

Word is he'll be assigned training of some sort here in the States. That could be a long assignment, 6 months or more. No word on if he has to go back. I'm sure some will have to. And he's quite good at what he does, from what my brother tells me. Kris just keeps getting promoted and he's only 26! So for now we're grateful he can come back here for a while to feel "normal" again. His letters and emails said it all - going for as long as 31 days without showers (that's why baby wipes were a big request), highest actual temp was 131 (can you imagine?), using instant tea mix in water bottles (it instantly brewed in the sun), sleeping wherever and whenever when it was your turn even though there was combat all around you, eating local food once and only once and paying for it big time, etc. Yes that letter describing in detail how sick he was, he said he moaning God's name and asking outloud for God to make him better, made me just cry. Then the next paragraph he says - so how the heck are you, me? I'm just fine! I think I said outloud - how can you just be fine Kris? So now you all know how worried we've been. I'd fix a simple homecooked meal for dinner, kids would groan at meatloaf - AGAIN - and I'd say - hey Kris would love a meal like this!!! I must admit I used that excuse a few times. LOL We thought about him all the time, still do! I will not lose that knot in my stomach until I know he's home!
Thanks for all your well wishes!!!! It means the world to me!
Mary
PS - found a Clarksville/Ft. Campbell article, about sending other soldiers over after the majority of the 101st come home:
