Another drunk driving death

Last week in Hampton VA a 14 year old boy was killed and four others hurt by a drunk driver. Sorry I dont have the link to the article. Now a teenagers life is over and the 54 year old man charged in his death faces the prospect of spending the rest of his life in prison. Those of you that drink...please think before you get behind the wheel of a car after "a couple of drinks".

How many times do people have to say "DON'T DRINK AND DRIVE"?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

Yet some people do it anyway.

That's because they "think" they're in control.

I tell friends of mine, I don't care what you think about your own control of the situation...the problem could be someone else. People who haven't been drinking can cause an accident also...that's why they're called accidents. I'd just hate to see a friend lose their license, car, or worse, their life because they were driving and, even if it wasn't their fault, they could still get into an accident and the fact that they were driving while intoxicated could lead to bad consequences.

I love my car and the privilege and right that I have to drive it. I wouldn't give it up by doing something stupid like driving after I had something to drink.

I've heard this ad over the holidays on the local radio stations:

Uh-oh here comes the police looks like I'm gonna pay...

Do ya think they'll get their point across some people?

the sad thing is he wont get that much prison time, unless he has numerous dui's on his record

Helen if im correct he has 5 felonies...4 counts of maiming by vehicle and one count of manslaughter. Judges in Hampton are VERY hard on folks that drink and drive and kill or injure others. And with the overwhelming evidence there is no chance for a plea bargain. I think the courts will give him the maximum sentence permitted by law with little of any time suspended.

put a breathalizer in all cars after the first conviction. That will keep them from DUI again. oh heck, just put a breathalzer in all cars.

rick-g, I agree 100%. I think that's going against our right to privacy. Oh heck, put it on there anyway. BIG BROTHER IS WATCHING

It is indeed very sad the number of deaths that are attributed to alcohol.

Indeed it is...now my uncle goes out darn near every weekend and gets drunk...then goes home (d/k how, but I think he drives). It's just sick!

Think about this for a minute, if a person gets killed by a drunk driver, his/her privacy is gone forever.

I don't have the newslink with me...but I read a story in my local paper this week about a woman in Butler County PA who was convicted of a drunk-driving death of a man...and part of her punishment handed down by the judge is that she has to carry a pic of the man in his casket in her wallet...to remind her of what her actions and misjudgement caused.

I really thought about the privacy issue, but the rights of the many over rule the rights of the one.

People who drink and drive need to strung up from the nearest pole for all to see. What part of do not drink and drive do they not understand?
