Question....and not intended to offend anyone

#1 Postby hurricanedude » Mon Jan 19, 2004 7:29 pm

So...what Happend To Lee Jackson Day? Seems MLK has taken the Day over all together...at first it was LEE/Jackson Day...then LEE/Jackson/King Day...now just King day...WHATS UP WITH THAT !!!!!
The 3 men never should have shared the same day as a holiday to begin with....they fought for totally differnt things....therefore 2 separate holidays would be more appropriate, but instead they gave LEE/JACKSON the BOOT...and thats BULL S%^#.
Just felt like venting......and was just curious about your thoughts on this

Perhaps the King holiday should actually be observed on his birthday 1/15.

The only problem I have is that we do not shut down our schools or anything for Veterans Day nor Confederates Day.

The very moment one gives due honor to Confederates, one runs afoul of a RABID liberal/black revisionist vendetta, without any regard for history as it actually happened.

Remember...history books are written by the VICTORS, and "our" side of the story (FI, 90% of the boys in grey didn't own slaves, and couldn't have cared less...they were fighting for their independence against what they considered as foreign invaders) is sadly unknown except amongst ourselves.

Bill,

Member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans and the Military Order of the Stars and Bars, by virtue of the service of Capt. Joseph Benjamin, Benjamin's Company of Horse (raised in Concordia Parish, LA), 1st Louisiana Cavalry Regiment, Provisional Army of the Confederate States (April 1862-August 1865).

Well said Bill and you are so right. I hope that one day that someone will finally take a stand and do what is right for every fallen soldier from the Civil War and beyond.

streetsoldier, while we're on this topic, let me vent a bit too. What the @#(*@ is the deal with "black history" month? What would the NAACP say if a white person even proposed the idea of having a "white history" month to congress?
You know what gripes my behind worse than anything? I get to angry when they even talk about changing a state's flag because they say "The old one represents oppression" or some crap like that. In my opinion, that is a part of our history and we can't change that. I say if you don't like the flag, move! And I'm sick of hearing them yell "DISCRIMINATION" if they aren't hired for a job that a white person was more qualified to fill....or for a business to HAVE to hire a black person to meet the quotas, while a more qualified white person is turned down for the job....
Don't get me wrong. I am not a racist. I just get so ticked off with the way things have to be so politically correct these days. I have some great friends who happen to be black (notice I didn't say african american). They are black, just as I am white. But there are some black folks (jessie jackson comes to mind) who need to shut up and listen for a change.
I'm proud to be an American and I'm glad that slavery was abolished. I would not want to go back to the early 60's or before when black folks had to ride in the back of buses or drink from different water fountains...I can remember going to the doctor's office in Collins and there were 2 seperate waiting areas...one for blacks and one for whites. I don't have a problem with my kids riding the school bus or going to school with black kids, but I DO have a problem with some of the blacks in America not realizing just how well off they are now-a-days.
Now, I'm going to say something that will probably tick some people off, but what I'm going to say is the truth. As a former teacher, I can tell you that I know this for a fact. Look at our education system. Look at the schools that have 90% white kids and those that have 90% black kids. What do you think the test scores show? Test scores show that the majority white schools have higher scores than those of the majority black schools. Now, some will blame it on funding. BULLCRAP! Look at Hattiesburg Public Schools. Majority black...Very good supplimentary monies from the city. I taught there 1 1/2 yrs, was an assistant 3 1/2 yrs prior to that and was paid very well. Took a $2000/yr pay cut to come to Cov. Co....but have some terrible test scores. Look at the school system in my county. Covington County Schools. Seminary Attendance Center is 90% or higher white. They have the highest scores in the county. Mt. Olive Attendance Center is 90% or higher black and have the lowest scores in the county, yet they have equal funding. Mt. Olive even has The Barksdale grant to help "improve test scores". I'm not saying that black people are not as intelligent as the white people. What I'm saying is that it's a parental thing. Most of the kids I've taught have been black and I've treated them just as I would my own kids. As a matter of fact, i'd have taken most of them home with me if I could have. But, they come from SORRY backgrounds. They have no clue who their daddy is and rarely see their mothers. They live with grandparents or relatives. Yet, the white kids most often live with both or one parent, have support at home and parental interest in what they are doing at school.
I could go on and on, but I have probably said more than I should. It's just a shame and disgrace that in this great country in which we live, there are still some who are bitter because some stupid white folks in history went to Africa and captured some black kids and made them slaves. They fail to realize that because of that, they are now living in the best country in the history of man! I wonder where they'd be now if history had been different???

Ok, stepping down from my high horse. I didn't post this to offend anyone, just wanted to vent a little.

This just shows how successful the liberals have been in creating a "dependency class', even to the demands for "reparations".

OK, let's take this one on; I'm a descendant of ancient Viking raiders (among many other nationalities), and my surname is Danish. Using the logic associated with "reparations", I should be held liable for 300 years of rapine, pillage and scourge all over Nothern Europe 1,000 years ago, and be forced to pay all the decendants thereof...Germans, French, English/Scots/Irish, etc.

Balderdash, I tell you.

I have found the same disparity in education as you have...but consider that many PARENTS (white and black) are ill-educated themselves (especially around here, where, as kids, they were needed more on the farm). SO...when poorly-educated parents are confronted with assisting their kids, they simply cannot do so...and in too many cases, the SCHOOL becomes the "parental authority" for these children in every way that matters.

Strangely, one does NOT find the same disparity within the Asian and Latino communities; mainly because they have a strong family ethic as well as a strong work ethic and sense of family honor as a foundation.

So, where does that lead us?

It would appear that some black people have this "hey, the government will take care of my kids if I have 4 or 5 of them". Yeah, I've had some black teenage girls tell me "I'm gonna get pregnant so I can get a check".
Things should improve as far as the parents lacking education. Now that MS has the mandatory attendance laws, kids are required to stay in school until they are 17. That doesn't mean that they are going to learn anything, tho. lol

Well, now that we have dispensed with that, shall we return to the question at hand; i.e., why our VETERANS of all conflicts aren't given their due? :grrr:

Thank you for your input! :larrow:
