American Idol Houston Auditions

#1 Postby TexasStooge » Thu Jan 22, 2004 12:30 pm

If you guys seen the Am. Idol Wednesday night auditions from Houston, Texas, what did you think of them?

Me, I think they were very depressing.

I was watching "The Apprentice", but I did switch back and forth. I think that three nights of this was a bit much.

I caught bits of the end of it because I was flipping through channels and saw some really AWFUL singer, who I had to stop and watch. Then Ryan mentioned that it wasn't looking too good for the Houston auditions, which made me want to stay and watch. Some blonde chick stepped up and blew them away with "Stormy Weather." The fact that she barely even got through the first line when Simon interrupted her and said, "You're going through to the next round. Thank you," meant that the others must have been awful and he was grateful to get at least one good singer in the bunch. But in the end, they mentioned that 13 made it past the Houston auditions. I only saw the one and was losing hope! :o

My daughter informed me that all the judges are meaner than last year.

No kidding, from the argument Paula had with Randy, she seem to pick up a little 'Simon-itis'.

Wasn't it though?

I can't believe that guy would have the guts to do something like that.

Man, what a bunch of fruitcakes. I couldn't understand why a bunch of them were even there. They could not sing worth a flip. I figured it was some type of a joke or something. Funny stuff.

I'm sure they are, though they all pretty much said that Simon gave them some good advice and learned alot from him.

It was hysterical! Fruitcake really is the right word.... how on earth some of these people think they can even hold a note is totally beyond me. Frankly most of them need a good wake up call and Simon is just being honest.. its a singing contest for crying in a bucket, if you cant sing what on earth are you doing at an audition!!!!!!

Agreed. I can't believe some of them get up there, can't sing at all, and then seem truly amazed when they are told they didn't make it. Unless it is all an act (just to get on TV) - which I am sure in some cases it is.

But none of those auditions would top last season's audition that Keith from Atlanta did. He was so bad, that my mom mimicked him! LOL!!

Unfortunately, Simon is not in their past. He has a big part in their career at this time. The contract they are awarded stipulates something about Simon raking in a big chunk of the $$ And having some to do with the recording...

Some revelations about the auditions, here and elsewhere. Heard an interview on the radio with one who didn't make it. There are 4 rounds of auditions before you even get to Randy, Paula, and Simon. This girl sang live on the radio and was good-not great, but good enough she should have made it through. When she got to the 4th round of auditions one of the producers just hung his head and said wow-sorrry I just can't use you. And the reason? They already had enough good ones(or he had his quota of good ones)and they are required to send though a lot of the horrible wannabes that you see so there is a show to watch instead of just a lot of good singers. VERY SAD IMO!!! This girl said fully 50% of the people she heard should have at least made it to the final in front of the celebrity judges. Casts a whole new light on the show. How many deserving don't make it through just so there is some "entertainment"??

Oh wow!! I didnt ever hear that!!

That's just plain ridiculous and hypocritical! If they are looking for the best then they need to leave the idiots out! Yeah, it is funny, but I watch for the good ones!

Also, there were a few (not in Houston) but on the other nights that I thought should have made it through, but the judges didn't let em....oh well, anything for ratings...
