What's your name mean?

#1 Postby coriolis » Tue Mar 11, 2003 6:39 pm

This was successful topic at that "place." It seems that the crew here is reaching a critical mass. Would all members be so kind as to 'splain what your screen name here means?

I'll go first. The coriolis effect relates to the circular pattern that air takes when it rises and falls. The effect also relates to moving objects like airplanes flying over a moving earth. A plane heading in an apparant direction will end up somewhere else on the surface! To me, life is like that too. You think that you're heading in one direction and you end up somewhere else. Wow Rainband. I know those places. We are practically on a first name basis with Melitos. We get subs there all the time. We always order about 7 sandwiches for this house full of people and have them write the names on the wrapper. They know who I am when I phone in the order! We live in Old Lycoming Twp., but are looking to move further out in the country.... Well look at this, I'm off topic again!

Well, in August 2000, I first started posting on TWC and chose the name "hurricanedude". Then around April 2002, I started going to weather chatrooms and used "hurricanedude" there. But that month I found out about storm2k, which had about 100 chatters one night in 2001, so I wanted to see what the big deal was. I was also told that there was another "hurricanedude" who had been chatting at s2k for a few years. So on my first visit to the old chatroom at the now defunct Talkcity, I chose the name "The_other_HD" and shortened it a few weeks later to "OtherHD". Talkcity collapsed a few months later and I had the chance to register as "hurricanedude" at the new chatroom, but OHD stuck and I have been OHD ever since. :D

No I don't work for PennDOT, but we deal with them, and that name sounds familiar. The beer and sub sounds good. Let me know when you'll be in town.

All this talk about X's. Sheesh. Is everyone here because they have an X, or do they have an X because they were here?

Well, mine's a no-brainer, but I chose it because I have a particular interest in barometric pressure changes/records, and also because it's generic and not tied to any particular type of weather condition. I love 'em all.

And also because "nor'easter" was already taken over at you-know-where.

Mine is pretty self-explanatory as well. I'm from the south and gale is a strong wind....southerngale. I thought it sounded cool together.

Stormsfury -- hmmm...

First it started with Storm - for a stage name at karaoke shows and singing, in general ... thought about it for a while for something that fits me. The name came, of course, for my love of watching storms in general. However, this name took on a new meaning from fans of my singing the heavy stuff ...

Stormsfury evolved from the singing/weather modes combined and to accommodate what was available and I thought this name would best describe me and my persona (actually, my thought process as a whole, as my life is as unstable as the atmosphere on a summer day).

Obviously, as people get to know me, I'm generally a pretty sedate person, but I have some problems with my mouth shooting off before the brain can stop and rationalize. Also in the last few years, with all the turmoil that my life journeys have been through have been unpredictable, stormy, and riddled with setbacks. Just when it seems that things look on the up and up, something else takes me right back to the hellacious reality like some kind of dark cloud over me.

I just cannot seem to be happy anymore ... I experienced happiness recently, and I only wish to have that happiness once again forever.

Well...then....in contrast to that, Stormsfury.....

...comes the breeze. Gentle, moving mildly through life...making
people stop and feel. Nothing forocious, but, never still...simply
moving.
