You are President of the United States...

#1 Postby j » Wed Mar 12, 2003 9:09 am

You are the President of the United States. Scientists have discovered a
meteor that is headed towards the earth. They have calculated that it will
strike France in 2 days, at approximately 2:30 A.M. The meteor is large
enough to completely wipe France from the face of the earth forever.
France and the United Nations have requested that the United States send all available ships and aircraft to help evacuate the country. Among the ships and planes you could be sending are many that are being used to fight the war on terror overseas.

As the President, you must decide: Do you stay up late on the night of
impact to watch the coverage live, or do you tape it and watch it in the
morning?

2:30 AM French Time or Washington time? If the former, we could all watch it at a decent hour here-if the latter, I'd catch it on the Today Show.
No need to waste a decent videocassette.

I'd probably help them out just to show how much of a humanitarian nation we really are...that we aren't doing things only for selfish reasons like people always say.

i would watch it live AND tape it so i could enjoy it again and again in the future LOL

in reality, no matter what nation it was, our closest friend or direst enemy, millions of innocents would die and that is not worth it. thus i would do what JQ did, and help out any way i can.

peace

If the meteor is large enough to wipe France off the map, it would be large enough to wipe out all traces of life as we know it...sending ships and planes would be useless.

Not Necessarily

One about 1.5km in diameter would only devastate a major portion of Europe leaving the rest us intact though having to cope with a period of chaotic weather. It would depend upon the composition and speed of approach of course. Generally, it's considered that ELEs require an impactor of about 5-10 km in diameter or larger.
